POSITION OVERVIEW

Gateway is seeking a strategic, detail-oriented, and proactive Manager of Financial Operations to join our growing team of professionals committed to international higher education. Reporting to Gateway’s Director of Operations, the Manager leads the organization’s financial operations, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all financial activities. The Manager serves as a key member of the leadership team, providing strategic financial oversight, enhancing operational processes, and contributing to the long-term financial health of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

The Manager of Financial Operations oversees all aspects of Gateway’s financial processes, reporting functions, tax compliance, and contract fulfillment responsibilities. This individual ensures the organization's financial health, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

  • Financial Strategy & Reporting: The Manager develops, implements, and oversees financial strategies aligned with Gateway’s organizational goals, including financial forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning. The Manager prepares and delivers regular financial reports, such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, and analyzes financial performance to identify trends, risks, and opportunities. Through interpreting financial data, the Manager provides actionable insights and recommendations to Gateway leadership to support informed decision-making and sustainable growth.
  • Payroll and Transaction Management: The Manager oversees all payroll operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and internal policies. This includes overseeing timesheet processing and ensuring proper tracking, approvals, and integration with payroll. This role manages accounts receivable functions, including invoicing, receipt allocation, and collections management, as well as accounts payable activities, including vendor payments, expense reimbursements, and reconciliation of vendor statements.
  • Regulatory Compliance, Tax, and Audit Readiness: The Manager maintains all financial records in accordance with organizational policies and generally accepted accounting principles. The Manager ensures full compliance with applicable financial, tax, and regulatory requirements, including the timely preparation and filing of required tax documents. The Manager leads audit preparations, manages external audit processes, and responds promptly to auditor inquiries while maintaining thorough, organized financial documentation and transparency.
  • Contract Fulfillment and Financial Oversight: The Manager ensures that all financial aspects of Gateway’s contracts, both client-facing and vendor-related, are properly tracked, fulfilled, and documented. They monitor invoicing schedules, payment terms, and compliance obligations embedded within contracts, working closely with project leads to ensure full financial compliance and performance. The Manager also onboards new Affiliates, Associates, and External Contractors into Gateway’s financial systems to ensure consistency and compliance with financial processes.
  • Operational Efficiency and Process Improvement: The Manager evaluates and enhances Gateway’s financial systems, workflows, and internal controls to support operational efficiency, mitigate risk, and maintain a high standard of financial management. They identify and implement improvements that optimize Gateway’s financial operations and support scalability as the organization grows.
  • Team Collaboration: As a key member of Gateway’s leadership team, the Manager collaborates closely with the Managing Director, associates, and affiliates to ensure seamless financial coordination across the organization. The Manager provides financial training and support to project managers, helping them understand financial processes, manage project budgets, and track contract financials effectively. The Manager provides financial guidance and support to internal stakeholders, fostering strong operational alignment and resource management.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Manager must be a highly motivated, organized, detail-oriented and conscientious self-starter with excellent communication skills. The individual must have the ability to function effectively under pressure, be capable of making decisions and responding to challenges quickly and with ease. The Manager must demonstrate sound judgment, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Required qualifications include:

  • -Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field.
  • Significant experience (minimum 5 years) in financial operations, accounting, or related leadership roles, preferably within an educational, nonprofit, or consulting organization.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, payroll management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in financial management software (e.g., Xero) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Proven ability to develop financial strategies, manage budgets, and support organizational growth.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.

qualifications include:

  • CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the field of international higher education or related sectors.
  • Knowledge of additional and/or significant international experience.
  • Experience working with remote, globally distributed teams.
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

COMPENSATION

The Manager will be hired as a remote, part-time position (approximately 30 hours per week) with an hourly rate of $29/hour.
