Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Morton, IL is seeking a Manager, Facilities Engineering to lead maintenance for a high‑volume hardware manufacturing site. You will own equipment performance, OEE, and multi‑year capital planning with a focus on uptime, safety and cost efficiency.

Reporting to PSLD leadership, you will coach a maintenance organization across shifts, coordinate with engineers and suppliers, and drive continuous improvement through data analysis and robust asset strategies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related STEM and 5 years of maintenance or facilities experience.
  • Experience with SAP EAM/PM or another CMMS.
  • Knowledge of plant facilities management processes and infrastructure management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate across divisions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers and suppliers to meet goals and manage facilities sustainably.
  • Lead the Morton DC maintenance team across shifts, including supervision and coaching.
  • Oversee inspections, repairs, and updates of facilities and equipment; ensure safety and reliability.
  • Develop and execute multi-year capital plans and asset replacement strategies.
  • Own equipment performance and OEE, drive downtime reduction and uptime targets.

Our teams work together in critical areas that leverage digital capabilities, technology and operational excellence.The **Manager, Facilities Engineering** supervises maintenance activities for facilities and infrastructures in a hardware manufacturing plant or site. **Additional Information:*** **Location:** Morton, IL (United States)* **Required Travel:** Less than 10% (Domestic & International)* **Relocation Assistance Offered:** None* **US Work Sponsorship Offered:** None**What You Will Do:*** Collaborate with engineers, partners and suppliers to meet business goals in accordance with the sustainable use of facilities and budget demands.* Construct an efficient facility maintenance team and guides training sessions to ensure quality performance.* Evaluate the operation's effectiveness with current utilities and equipment; provides appropriate solutions to challenges and risks.* Oversee inspections, repairs and updates of facilities and relevant operational activities; maintains order at the facility.* Responsible for the strategic planning, reliability, operation, and maintenance of the material handling automation min the Morton DC* Lead the Morton DC Maintenance organization through a team of shift supervisors, providing direction, coaching, performance management, and development for supervisors, salaried staff, and hourly skilled trades across all shifts, including weekend coverage.* Lead the maintenance, reliability, and lifecycle management of material handling automation, including conveyor and sortation, ASRS crane systems, robotic cells, self-driving vehicles, vertical lifts, racking, box building and automated packaging machines, and warehouse control and PLC systems.* Own equipment performance and OEE for the site, leading technical solutions to chronic downtime and partnering with operations to set and meet response time, repair time, and availability targets that support warehouse throughput.* Develop and execute multi-year capital plans, asset replacement strategies, and business cases that improve reliability, reduce operational risk, enhance safety, and support PSLD transformation, technology, and network efficiency initiatives.**What You Have (Basic Requirements):*** **Education Requirement:** A bachelor's degree in engineering or related STEM discipline AND 5 years of experience in maintenance or facilities management in a manufacturing or distribution environment * **Collaborating:** Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner. * **Cross-Team Integration:** Understanding of the importance of inter-team collaboration in breaking down silos and achieving business results; ability to lead employees from various functions to communicate, coordinate work across divisions, and collaborate in solving problems as one team. * **Data Gathering & Analysis:** Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment. + **Strong analytical skills to interpret performance metrics, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement.** * **Manufacturing Application Systems:** Knowledge of company and industry databases and applications used in a manufacturing environment; ability to operate, maintain and update these systems. + **Experience with SAP EAM/PM or another computerized maintenance management system.** * **Manufacturing Equipment:** Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing; ability to safely operate, maintain, update and store them. * **Plant Facilities Management:** Knowledge of processes, methodologies and techniques used to manage plant facilities; ability to handle the full spectrum of activities for managing and maintaining physical facilities and infrastructure. * **Problem Solving:** Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations. * **Supplier Management - MFG:** Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.**Top Candidates Will Have:*** A master's degree in engineering, business, or another related field.* A Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), or Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) credential. **What You Will Get:****This is Caterpillar** – creating and delivering world-class components and solutions superior to the competition.
