Job summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking an Environmental Services Manager in Bakersfield, CA to lead the EVS team, drive safety, and oversee continuous improvement of the operating model. You will manage staffing, budgets, and adherence to regulatory standards while fostering a clean, safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

The ideal candidate has at least three years in Environmental Services with supervisory experience, and holds or is pursuing CHES credentials; bachelor's degree preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years in Environmental Services.
  • One year in Supervisory level experience managing and scheduling staff.
  • Regulatory compliance and safety knowledge are required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management oversight for continuous improvement of the EVS operating model.
  • Manage performance reviews, scheduling, hiring and staff engagement activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments, EOC, IP/IC committees as needed.
  • Evaluate and recommend environmental hygiene maintenance for new materials and finishes before purchase.
  • Manage departmental budgets including capital, projects, supplies, and operations.
  • Ensure proper handling, packaging, storage and disposal of regulated medical waste with documentation.

Job description

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Environmental Services Manager, you will provide leadership, direction and management oversight for continuous improvement of the standard EVS operating model within the facility. Every day, you will manage a highly equipped and engaged Environmental Services Team using evidence-based techniques, process and mission metrics (KPIs) to ensure we provide a clean safe environment as we help save lives. To be successful in this role, you are thorough and committed to safety. You truly are the most important component contributing to the safety and comfort of our patients, visitors, and staff. A well-maintained facility with compassionate staff brings comfort and peace of mind to patients, their loved ones, and all who serve here.

  • Completes performance reviews, disciplinary actions, scheduling, employee engagement survey action planning, interviewing, hiring and retention of staff.
  • Collaboration with other departments, EOC, IP/IC committees.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations for environmental hygiene maintenance for new floor coverings, wall coverings, furnishings and interior finishes prior to purchase.
  • Manages departmental budgets (e.g., capital, projects, supplies, operations).
  • Ensures regulated medical waste is handled, packaged, stored and disposed of in accordance with federal and state regulations, and appropriate documentation is maintained.
  • Manages the necessary and required resources for the environmental services department and provides recommendations for staffing levels, products and equipment. Completes all Human Resources responsibilities for interviewing, hiring, managing, staff development, corrective actions and / or staff engagement needs.
Job Requirements
Required
  • Minimum Three years in Environmental Services.
  • One year in Supervisory level experience managing and scheduling staff.
