Job summary

Compass Group is seeking an Environmental Services (EVS) Manager to lead the EVS department within a 362-bed acute care hospital. You will provide leadership to frontline staff, ensuring cleanliness, infection prevention, and a welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, recruiting and scheduling staff, coaching and developing the team, and supporting quality assurance and safety programs.

Qualifications

  • 4 years of experience in environmental services or related field.
  • 1+ year supervisory or management experience in healthcare preferred.
  • Strong leadership and customer service orientation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; CHEST/REH certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee housekeeping and EVS operations to maintain a safe healthcare environment.
  • Ensure areas meet hospital, regulatory, and infection prevention standards.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, onboarding, and retention of EVS staff.
  • Assist with staff scheduling and daily workforce planning.
  • Coach, train, recognize, and provide feedback to team members.
  • Lead by example in customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Support quality assurance, infection prevention, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Monitor safety procedures including handling of chemicals and PPE.

Job Summary

Environmental Services (EVS) Manager responsible for supporting the successful operation of the Environmental Services department within a 362-bed acute care hospital. Provide leadership to frontline staff, ensures highest standards of cleanliness and infection prevention, promotes employee engagement and delivers a safe, clean, welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily housekeeping and environmental services operations to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary healthcare environment
  • Ensure assigned areas consistently meet hospital, regulatory, and infection prevention standards
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retention of EVS team members
  • Assist with staff scheduling and daily workforce planning to ensure appropriate coverage and productivity
  • Assign work areas, project responsibilities, and special cleaning assignments based on departmental priorities
  • Plan, coordinate, and monitor periodic and project-based cleaning activities
  • Provide ongoing coaching, training, recognition, and performance feedback to team members
  • Lead by example in promoting exceptional customer service and responsiveness to patients, visitors, and hospital staff
  • Participate in departmental meetings, leadership development programs, and ongoing training initiatives
  • Support quality assurance, infection prevention, and continuous improvement programs throughout the facility
  • Ensure proper use, cleaning, maintenance, and accountability of departmental equipment and supplies
  • Monitor compliance with safety procedures, including proper handling and storage of chemicals and PPE
  • Conduct routine inspections and audits to ensure cleanliness, safety, and regulatory compliance
  • Assist frontline staff with cleaning responsibilities as needed to support operational requirements
  • Support department budget goals through effective labor, supply, and equipment management
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Four (4) years of experience in environmental services, housekeeping, facilities support, hospitality services, or related field
  • One or more years of supervisory or management experience, preferably in a healthcare environment
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, develop, and engage diverse teams
  • Associate’s degree a plus but not required
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, customer service, and operational excellence
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem‑solving, decision‑making, and conflict‑resolution abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively in a fast‑paced healthcare environment
  • Understanding of budgeting principles, labor management, and expense control
  • Highly organized with strong administrative and time‑management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and other web‑based systems
  • Preferred: Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (CHEST), Registered Executive Housekeeper (REH), or other relevant certification
