Job description

Indecon is seeking outstanding candidates with 8-10+ years’ experience in economics, social research, consultancy, or public policy to fill vacancies at Manager / Divisional Director level in the practice. The Manager and Divisional Director roles are a managerial and leadership role within the practice and the ideal candidate would have demonstrable experience in managing complex research projects. Other desirable experience would include quantitative analysis, econometrics, data analysis, spreadsheet modelling, impact evaluation, cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analyses, regulation, competition, and forecasting.

Summary of the Role

Indecon has vacancies across areas of our practice for individuals with 8-10+ years’ experience. The vacancies are in our Dublin office.

We anticipate that successful candidates will fulfil the role of Manager / Divisional Director with Indecon, depending on the level of experience and qualifications of the candidate. Both the Manager and Divisional Director roles are managerial and leadership roles within the practice. The roles are suitable for candidates with experience in managing complex research projects. Successful applicants will be expected to work effectively with both colleagues and clients, using their knowledge of economics and policy analysis to address real world problems. The successful applicant will also be expected to manage teams of economists/analysts in delivering projects.

The successful applicant will be expected to engage with clients and stakeholders at a senior level on a regular basis. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of economic theory and a genuine interest in applying economics to real world situations.

The role presents a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to play a senior role in the completion of policy relevant research across a range of areas, as well as providing advice to commercial clients both in Ireland and internationally.

The role will involve working and leading on a range of projects for our clients across the public and private sectors both in Ireland and internationally. Indecon has experience in undertaking research and analysis and advising clients across a wide range of areas including capital appraisal, policy impact evaluation, counterfactual impact evaluation modelling, advice to commercial clients, labour market analysis, health economics, economic forecasting, regulatory economics, energy economics, competition economics, economic impact assessments and analyses across a range of other areas.

The Manager / Divisional Director Role With Indecon Includes
  • Undertaking research and analysis using data from public sources as well as confidential data from clients
  • Project managing complex research projects
  • Leading and managing stakeholder engagement processes
  • Managing teams of economists/analysts in the completion of project deliverables
  • Engaging with clients and stakeholders at a senior level
  • Undertaking econometric and statistical modelling
  • Undertaking complex spreadsheet modelling
  • Designing and managing surveys, and using statistical techniques in order to analyse and interpret the quantitative data collected
  • Providing economic and statistical advice to governments, commercial enterprises, organisations and other clients in light of research findings
  • Producing research reports and presentations based on underlying economic analysis
  • Working as part of wider teams in the delivery of complex research projects

Requirements

Indecon is seeking individuals who are educated to masters or PhD level with a qualification in economics, public policy, social research, finance, or a related discipline. The ideal candidate will have an outstanding academic record with qualifications from a leading Irish or international university. The ideal candidate will have 8-10 or more years of relevant experience of working in economics or a research related role in the private, consulting, or public sectors. It is expected that the ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in managing teams and delivering complex projects. Superb English communications skills, both written and verbal, are an absolute necessity for any candidate.

Candidates will be expected to be able to demonstrate the following skills and expertise:

  • Strong written communication skills with demonstrable experience in communicating complex economic concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in managing teams of economists/analysts in delivering complex projects
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in engaging with clients/stakeholders at a senior level
  • Experience in managing junior staff in the completion of project deliverables
  • Experience in leading stakeholder engagement processes
  • The ability to work effectively in a team
  • Comfort in working in an environment with client driven deadlines for deliverables
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
  • Experience with data analysis and manipulation, ideally using STATA and/or R
  • The ability to manage your time effectively across multiple project commitments

Experience and/or training with the use of AI tools would also be an asset.

The ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate skills and experience with one or more of the following:

Experience undertaking data analysis and economic modelling using statistical software packages would be an asset, as would any experience with spatial analysis using programmes including QGIS.
