Job description

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications this position is responsible for the strategy and execution of Target ALS's digital presence across channels, including website, email, social media, and digital advertising.

Description
Manager, Digital Marketing

Job Title: Manager, Digital Marketing
Department: Development and Marketing/Communications
Supervisor's Title: Director, Marketing and Communications
Salary Range: $118,000-142,000

Position Purpose:

The Manager, Digital Marketing is responsible for the strategy and execution of Target ALS's digital presence across channels, including website, email, social media, and digital advertising. This role blends strategic planning with hands-on implementation to amplify Target ALS's mission and impact, increase engagement and programmatic participation, and drive fundraising support. This role is expected to personally execute core digital marketing tasks — content creation and posting, community management, and email building and deployment — while also overseeing contractors who extend team capacity, and coordinating with Target ALS's external agency partner(s) on scoped projects and paid media.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • With Director, Marketing and Communications, develop digital media strategy and manage execution across website, email, social media, and digital advertising to achieve organizational goals
  • Ensure strong cross-channel messaging that is consistent with brand and diversified to appeal to target audiences
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Development/Marketing and Communications, Mission, and Operations teams for content development, review, and timely publishing
  • Stay current on relevant digital trends, platform updates, and best practices
Website & Content Management
  • Maintain master content calendar, including upcoming social media, email, and website content, collaborating with Manager, Mission Communications on content development and approval timelines
  • Perform routine website updates and edits directly; periodically review site content to ensure it is current, accurate, and engaging
  • Own ongoing optimization of the organization's website to improve user experience, engagement, and conversions (donations, form submissions, downloads, etc.)
Social Media Management & Execution
  • Manage social media strategy across key platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X) to increase awareness and engagement with target audiences
  • Create and post content, including graphics, video, and captions, to create a consistent and engaging social media presence, diversified by platform
  • Manage community engagement — monitoring and responding to mentions, comments, and direct messages to foster meaningful engagement with the audience
  • Brief and review work from freelance contributors supporting social content production and video editing when such support is engaged
Email Marketing
  • Develop email marketing strategy alongside the Director, Marketing and Communications that supports engagement, fundraising, and programmatic participation goals
  • Build and send emails (newsletters, fundraising emails, program announcements, and more), including copywriting, design, and deployment
  • Maintain email list, segment audiences, and employ strategies to deepen relationships and drive conversion (e.g., tailored messaging, A/B tests, automated campaigns)
Paid Media Management
  • Serve as the primary internal point of contact for Target ALS's paid media agency partner, ensuring campaigns reflect organizational priorities and brand guidelines.
  • Provide campaign briefs, creative input, and performance context to the agency; review and relay results and recommendations to the Director
  • Note: day-to-day paid media execution (campaign setup, bid management, optimization, and Google Ads grant administration) is currently owned by external agency partners under scoped agreements. However, this role requires an understanding of paid media execution to ensure partners deliver against goals.
Campaign Development & Execution
  • Working with Development/Marketing and Communications and the agency partner, develop creative direction and multi-channel strategy and execution for tentpole campaigns (e.g., ALS Awareness Month, EOY)
  • Manage production timelines for campaign assets, including deliverables from freelance contributors and the agency partner
Freelance Digital Marketing Oversight
  • Oversee freelance digital marketing support (e.g., video editing, social content production), including day-to-day briefing, workflow management, deadlines, and quality review of deliverables before publication
  • Vet and screen freelance candidates — sourcing, initial outreach, portfolio/reference review, and interviews — and present recommended finalists to the Director
  • Attend freelancer kickoff and review meetings alongside the Director
  • Step in to personally execute the relevant work (content creation, posting, email builds, etc.) during any gaps in freelance coverage
Analytics & Reporting
  • Own and maintain Target ALS's marketing dashboard, ensuring it reflects accurate, up-to-date performance data across channels
  • Build and deliver monthly performance reports with actionable recommendations, in addition to quarterly, annual, and campaign-specific reports (including

year-over-year and competitor analyses)

  • Support the Director, Marketing and Communications in tracking progress toward departmental OKRs specific to digital marketing
  • Synthesize insights from dashboard and reports to provide recommendations to leadership for future growth
  • 5-8 years of hands-on digital marketing experience, ideally spanning social media, email marketing, and website content management (e.g., WordPress or similar CMS)
  • Comfort operating as both a strategist and a hands-on executor — this role does the work directly as often as it directs others doing it
  • Experience vetting and overseeing freelancers, contractors, or agency partners
  • Experience analyzing performance metrics and translating data into recommendations
  • Strong writing and content judgment; attention to detail; comfortable representing a mission-driven scientific brand voice
  • Nonprofit health sector experience strongly preferred
  • Additional degree or certification preferred
