Job description

Overview

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. We are a dream team obsessed with combining creativity, intuition and cutting‑edge technology to write the next episode of storytelling.

The opportunity: Netflix seeks a Manager/Counsel to join the US Studio Partnerships Business & Legal Affairs team in Los Angeles, CA. This team handles all business and legal affairs aspects of Netflix’s US original series that involve a third‑party studio partner (primarily licensed and co‑production arrangements). The role is heavily focused on legal affairs within a hybrid business affairs/legal affairs environment.

Responsibilities
  • Draft and negotiate licensing and co‑production agreements for scripted original series.
  • Strategically advise studio partners and producers on Netflix’s preferences and requirements for deal terms, including above‑the‑line talent deals (e.g., writer, showrunner, actors) and complex rights deals.
  • Oversee projects from development through post‑production and exhibition on Netflix’s global streaming service, navigating complex legal and business matters that arise during the production lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with internal partners such as the content team, other business affairs and legal affairs executives, and cross‑functional departments (production, finance, intellectual property, employment, labor, tax, marketing, consumer products and brand partnerships).
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with external parties, including partners at studios, talent representatives and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS, JD, and bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state.
  • At least 7 years of experience in scripted series production and/or licensing/co‑production space, in a legal‑focused or combined business affairs/legal affairs role.
  • Direct experience drafting rights agreements, licensing and/or co‑production agreements.
  • Experience at another SVOD platform and/or at a studio dealing with SVOD network partners is strongly preferred.
  • Firm grasp of all aspects of scripted television development, production and distribution, with robust industry knowledge and relationships.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and drafting skills.
  • Clear, concise communication and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and judgment, even when rules are unclear; ability to prioritize issues by business impact.
  • Ability to distill important points and present issues succinctly.
  • Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to pivot quickly, think practically and be solution‑oriented.
  • Curiosity and willingness to tackle matters outside the traditional scope of the role.
Compensation and Benefits

The role offers a salary range of $225,000 to $390,000. Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including health plans, mental health support, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match, a Stock Option Program, disability programs, health savings and flexible spending accounts, family‑forming benefits, life and serious injury benefits, and paid time off. Full‑time hourly employees accrue 35 days of paid time off annually for vacation, holidays and sick leave. Full‑time salaried employees receive immediate flexible time off.
