Job description

The Opportunity

Netflix seeks a Manager/Counsel to join the US Studio Partnerships Business & Legal Affairs team in a legal‑focused role in Los Angeles, CA. This role focuses on drafting and negotiating licensing and co‑production agreements for scripted original series, advising studio partners and producers on Netflix’s terms, overseeing projects from development to post‑production, collaborating with internal business partners and cross‑functional teams, and developing relationships with external partners.

Responsibilities
  • Draft and negotiate licensing and co‑production agreements for scripted original series.
  • Strategically advise studio partners and producers on Netflix’s preference and requirements around deal terms, including above‑the‑line talent deals and complex rights deals.
  • Oversee projects throughout all stages from development through post‑production, navigating complex matters that arise during the production lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with internal business partners (content team, business affairs, legal affairs) and cross‑functional partners (production, finance, IP, employment, labor, tax, marketing, consumer products, brand partnerships).
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with external parties (business & legal affairs execs at partner studios, talent representatives, etc.).
Qualifications and Work Experience
  • BA/BS, JD, and bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state.
  • At least 7 years of experience in scripted series production and/or licensing/co‑production, in a legal‑focused or combined business affairs/legal affairs role.
  • Prior direct experience drafting rights agreements, licensing and/or co‑production agreements.
  • Experience at another SVOD platform and/or a studio dealing with SVOD network partners is strongly preferred.
  • A firm grasp of all aspects of development, production, and distribution of scripted television.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and drafting skills.
  • Clear and concise communication and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, judgment, and ability to prioritize issues in terms of business impact.
  • Ability to distill important points, present issues succinctly, work proactively and independently under tight timeframes.
  • Service orientation, flexibility, solution‑oriented thinking, curiosity, and willingness to tackle matters outside area of expertise.
Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for this role ranges from $225,000.00 to $390,000.00 per year, with a flexible mix of salary and stock options. Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including health plans, mental health support, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match, a stock option program, disability programs, health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts, family‑forming benefits, life and serious injury benefits, paid leave of absence programs, and flexible time off. Full‑time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off; full‑time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off.
