Job summary

Cryoport Systems is seeking a Cost Accounting Manager to lead the cost accounting function and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes.

The role oversees fixed assets, inventory reconciliations, and cost reduction initiatives, partnering with operations, IT, and procurement to ensure accurate cost data and timely reporting. A manufacturing background and strong Excel/analytical skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5-7 years previous costing and general accounting experience.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Willingness to spend time in operations/production areas to learn processes and product.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Capital Expenditure tracking and reporting; prepare monthly fixed assets journals and reconciliations.
  • Analyze cost accounting data; assist with monthly cycle counts and annual inventory counts; manage physical inventory.
  • Assist in cost reduction initiatives; provide cost data to support business decisions and forecasts.
  • Prepare journal entries for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare monthly inventory reconciliations and related cost accounting adjustments.
  • Support planning/forecasting of cost of sales, inventory, and capital expenditures with FP&A.
  • Lead special projects including new software/process implementations.
  • Analyze freight variances and freight accruals; advise Accounts Payable.
  • Review open PO receipts for potential accrual adjustments.
  • Foster cross-functional relationships with engineering, procurement, and IT.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for performing the day-to-day responsibilities of the Cost Accounting function, as well as performing related responsibilities associated with the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes. The role is integral in supporting the continual growth of the Cost Accounting function and ensuring accurate and timely accounting and analysis.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Manage Capital Expenditure tracking and reporting. Prepare monthly fixed assets journal entries and reconciliation.
  • Analyze cost accounting data and assist with monthly cycle count / annual physical inventory count. Plan and manage annual physical inventory and related adjustments.
  • Assist Finance leadership in the preparation and presentation of cost reduction recommendation and provide cost-related data in support of business decisions.
  • Prepare journal entries related to cost accounting as required during the month-end, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Prepare monthly inventory reconciliations and other accounts impacted by the Cost Accounting function.
  • Assist Director of FP&A in planning and forecasting the cost of sales, inventory and capital expenditures.
  • Manage special projects, including implementation of new software and processes.
  • Perform analysis of freight variances and related monthly freight accruals, providing guidance to Accounts Payable team.
  • Review open PO receipts not invoiced to determine if receipt accrual require adjustments
  • Foster working relationships cross-functionally, particularly with engineering, and procurement, and IT teams.
  • Manage inventory and COS related requests from the internal / external auditors, procurement and other departments.
  • Setup and lead the S&OP process working with the operations team.
  • Assist with internal, external and SOX audits.

The Job function listed is not exhaustive and shall also include any responsibilities as assigned by the manager from time to time.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience working in a Manufacturing environment
COMPETENCIES:
  • Strong financial analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Working knowledge of SQL is helpful
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5-7 years previous costing and general accounting experience
  • Ability to communicate and express ideas clearly and concisely, both written and verbal
  • Willingness to spend time in operations/production areas to learn product and processes

Compensation:

Up to $140k + benefits + stock + 401k + bonus
