Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Public Affairs, the Manager of Content and Communications Strategy will be a key player on SAFE’s Communications team. This position will provide a range of support to SAFE’s Centers and initiatives, and will be primarily responsible for creating content to help promote SAFE’s thought leadership, mission, and vision.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Writing and Content Development: Oversee the creation and editing of content across all SAFE’s Centers on various platforms, including but not limited to: OpEds, blog posts, one-pagers, media statements, talking points and infographics. Support development and growth of SAFE’s Energy Security Matter’s newsletter.
- Strategic Communication Planning: Assist in the development and execution of the organization's overall communications strategy. Help define key messages, target audiences, and communication channels.
- Project Management: Establish and manage SOPs around core communications tasks including report releases, webinars, digital campaigns, social media, and earned media promotion.
- Media Relations: Support drafting of press releases and statements, and facilitate reporter interactions to place SAFE’s perspective in a range of media outlets.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Support monitoring of media coverage and social engagement. Analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies and provide regular reports to senior leadership.
- Social and Digital Media: Grow SAFE’s social following with a focus on LinkedIn. Collaborate closely with SAFE’s Center leads, and identify opportunity for commentary on relevant news items, engage relevant stakeholders, repackage report material, and promote events, statements, and other pertinent activities.
- Internal Communications: Assist in ensuring clear and consistent communication across SAFE’s Centers, supporting cross-departmental initiatives, organizational updates, and strategic planning.
Knowledge & Experience
Professional Skills and Qualifications
- 5-10 years of experience in fast-paced communications environment. Relevant examples include a newsroom at a top tier news publication, multi-client PR firm, communications role on a Congressional or Senate committee, or large trade association.
- Demonstrated success and creative approach in range of communication methods.
- Fluency with multiple digital platforms and ability to learn new systems.
Skills & Abilities
- Highly creative and interested in developing messages, talking points, and compelling framing about a range of energy security topics.
- Exceptional writing abilities.
- Attention to detail, ability to advance multiple projects and prioritize on deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with a willingness to troubleshoot problems and find creative solutions.
- Ability to operate in non-partisan environment and consider multiple perspectives in message development and strategy.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in stakeholder management.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to support project management.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field (communications, journalism, public affairs, political science, international relations, or related technical discipline) required.
Salary/Benefits
The opportunity garners a competitive salary and benefits package. The offer will be reflective of a candidate’s individual experience level within the range of $90,000 - $110,000. SAFE provides a generous health benefits package covering up to 100% of premiums for employees and their families, 401K with 3% employer contribution and life insurance, as well as other benefits to be detailed in the offer. The individual will be based in Washington, D.C. and will work from SAFE’s conveniently-located office.
