Job description

Mission Measurement (MM) is the world leader in measuring social outcomes. We help federal, state, and local government define, analyze, and improve the results of grant investments in education, housing, public health, workforce development, and more. We believe social outcomes can be standardized and measured consistently.

At the center of our work is the Impact Genome Registry, the first-ever database with outcomes and cost benchmarks from over 2.2 million social programs. We are the premier implementors of the IGR with federal, state, and local agencies, working with them to track results, uncover “what works,” and invest where tax dollars will have the greatest impact.

Our goal is to maximize the impact of every dollar spent on social change.

Governments spend billions not knowing what works. Help fix that.

Mission Measurement seeks a highly capable and entrepreneurial Consulting Manager to support public-sector clients in shifting toward outcomes-focused, evidence-informed approaches to social impact and grantmaking. Managers work directly with federal agencies, state governments, and other funding bodies to help them design strategies, implement the Impact Genome Registry, make better investment decisions, and strengthen the systems and practices that support those decisions over time.

This role is a good fit for someone with strong consulting experience, comfort in complex environments, and the ability to translate analytical insight into practical action. You’ll lead engagements day-to-day, develop strategic recommendations, and help clients shift how they make decisions — not just what they report. As part of a small, growing team, you’ll operate with significant autonomy: building approaches, not just executing them, with direct exposure to senior leadership and clients from the start.

Candidates should be located near Washington DC.

Responsibilities
  • Lead client engagements end-to-end, translating client goals around outcomes, evidence, and impact into clear strategic frameworks and actionable recommendations
  • Guide public-sector clients through changes to funding strategy, decision-making processes, and performance management practices
  • Manage project plans, timelines, and team members to ensure high-quality delivery under tight deadlines
  • Produce polished, client-ready deliverables that synthesize analysis into clear insights for senior decision-makers
Client Partnership & Growth
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to client leaders, anticipating needs and helping clients succeed internally and externally
  • Facilitate working sessions and discussions with diverse stakeholder groups, including program, policy, and leadership audiences
  • Identify opportunities to deepen engagements, expand scope, and support account growth
  • Contribute to the evolution of MM’s offerings for public-sector and government clients
  • Mentor and manage analysts and data-focused team members, supporting skill development and quality standards
  • Support proposal development and thought leadership efforts as MM continues to grow its public-sector portfolio
Live our core values
  • Be Passionate about Social Impact
  • Be Rigorous, Relatable, and Agile
  • Maintain a Commercial Mindset
Salary and Benefits
  • $115k starting salary.
  • Benefits include comprehensive healthcare coverage, flexible vacation policy, hybrid work, 401K, and a collaborative work culture.

Requirements
YOU BRING

  • Direct experience working with federal agencies, state governments, or public funding bodies, either as a consultant or internal staff
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to move from analysis to action
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills for senior and non-technical audiences
  • Experience managing complex projects and client relationshipsComfort navigating organizational change, ambiguity, and stakeholder dynamics
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a bias toward ownership and execution
EVEN BETTER IF YOU HAVE
  • Experience in or genuine familiarity with the nonprofit, social sector, or philanthropic space
  • A track record combining consulting rigor with subject-matter depth in outcomes measurement, evaluation, or evidence-based grantmaking
