Department Overview

The GBS Operational Excellence team provides services to the operating towers and groups within Finance Experience. Our team supports strong internal controls, continuous improvement, vendor performance and reporting, vendor management, and business-side financial systems. We enable GBS teams to deliver best-in-class services to McDonald’s business.

Duties

The Manager, GBS Finance Operations Compliance, will focus on and be accountable for the success of a best-practice internal control environment, and driving a control conscious and compliant organization. As part of Global Business Services (GBS), this role will work to build strong processes and controls across Finance Operations. This role will serve as a key liaison representing Global Business Services, partnering with Global Process Leads, Corporate Controller Group, outsourced service providers, Technology, Global Internal Audit, and Markets to drive an effective and efficient controls environment.

• Communicate quarterly to management regarding business controls design and operating effectiveness for SOX 302 Certification Process. Support the quarterly and annual review and assessment of internal controls with key stakeholders and control owners to support management’s assessment of internal controls over financial reporting in financial filings with the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission.
• Manage end to end audit process for GBS span of control inclusive of SOX testing, risk and internal control assessment
• Contribute to Internal Audit’s report out to Senior Leadership (specifically, CFO, Corporate Controller and Chief Audit Executive) on the effectiveness of the internal control environment.
• Execute actions, tracking, training, support, and advice to address internal control risks and opportunities, including risks associated with the Company’s broader global transformation efforts. Partner closely with transformation teams to document and mitigate risk and enable the organization for controllership success.
• Support the design, communication, and enforcement of internal control policies and governance in GBS Finance Operations.
• Provide thought leadership and identify areas of emerging control and governance risk through initiative-taking and regular collaboration with Global Process Owners, Internal Auditors, External Auditors, Global Technology, and Finance Transformation. Build and foster cross-functional and cross-market relationships in support of controllership objectives. Key involvement in decision making to assess risk and ensure controls in place across the business mitigate risk.
• Drive efforts to streamline/standardize controls and related enablement to support a more sustainable and efficient SOX environment. Establish self-testing and continuous controls monitoring to help accounting teams mature control operation. This includes coaching, mentoring, and training of control owners.
• Serve as the controls subject matter expert for Global Business Services to optimize our compliance efforts, ensuring we set the bar for the rest of the system in terms of risk governance, controls, and documentation.
• Support the controls remediation program, as necessary, with efficient and effective tracking of deficiencies through remediation and Audit testing/monitoring.
• Maintain Relationship with External & Internal Audit for audit scope, activity, and new GBS initiatives impacting internal controls.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or business controls testing roles of increasing responsibility. Bachelors degree in Finance/ Accounting with any 1 of the certifications - CPA/ CIA/ ACCA/ CICA.
• Public Accounting, Internal Auditing or Internal Controls testing experience required.
• Big 4 Public Accounting experience preferred.
• Solid technical knowledge of business controls and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
• Experience with IT controls/auditing and/or transformation initiatives.
• Excellent communicator with ability to adapt & simplify messaging for various audiences & levels in the organization.
• Demonstrated history of strong cross-functional relationship development.
• Controls implementation or consulting experience is a major plus.
