The role provides leadership, oversight of clinical services, and collaboration with psychiatrists, nurses and the broader care team to optimize psychopharmacologic therapy.

You will participate in rounds, drive medication safety, and lead projects that improve quality, outcomes, and cost effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy degree (Doctor of Pharmacy) required.
  • Completion of a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency.
  • PGY1-PGY2 Residency in Psychiatry preferred.
  • Master's or Doctoral degree desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for clinical pharmacy services in the adult inpatient psychiatry program.
  • Support safe and effective psychotropic medication use; collaborate with psychiatrists and nursing staff.
  • Participate in patient care rounds and multidisciplinary committees.
  • Lead quality improvement and pharmacoeconomics initiatives related to psychiatry care.
  • Deliver training programs for students, residents, and staff.

Description: Manager Clinical Pharmacy - Inpatient Psychiatry At NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, outstanding pharmaceutical care is integral to our success. Our Department of Pharmacy is represented at the senior leadership level, ensuring direct pharmacy involvement in shaping the strategic direction of the organization. Through the depth and diversity of our pharmacy team, we contribute meaningfully to the care of patients across a wide range of specialized services, including inpatient psychiatry. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager works closely with the Lead Clinical Pharmacy Manager and other Pharmacy Managers to implement high-quality, evidence-based patient care services. This role provides leadership and oversight for clinical pharmacy services within the adult inpatient psychiatry program. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager supports the safe and effective use of psychotropic medications and collaborates closely with psychiatrists, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team to optimize psychopharmacologic therapy, promote medication safety, and support individualized treatment plans. In addition, the Clinical Pharmacy Manager maintains a liaison relationship with the psychiatry services covered through participation in patient care rounds and involvement in joint projects.

This includes but is not limited to:
  • Identification of problems/issues in specific patients and promotion of rational drug use on a case-by-case basis through the use of evidence-based therapies (includes therapy selection, monitoring and assessment of therapeutic outcomes)
  • Provision of drug information to providers covering the service and the patients covered by the Service(s) identified
  • Adverse Drug Reaction reporting for patients on service
  • Participation in multi-disciplinary committees
  • Patient education
  • Medication reconciliation

Develops, implements, manages and reports results pertinent to continuous quality improvement and expense reduction programs related to the patients serviced. Examples of such efforts should be:

  • Medication use evaluations
  • Treatment protocols/guidelines
  • Clinical pathways
  • Other products/services which fulfill these goals

Acts as secretary or member of multidisciplinary committee(s) of medical staff, charged by the Formulary and Therapeutics Committee or other Medical Board Subcommittee, which oversees, develops, implements and manages policies for the care delivered to the patients serviced.

Provides training and educational programs for undergraduate and graduate pharmacy students, universities, and health care providers at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Assists in the process of budget forecasting for pharmaceuticals based upon a knowledge base of ongoing research for new drugs and indications and trending of current consumption. Develops and delivers educational programs for patients cared for at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Performs research in areas of interest, especially those which parallel departmental goals and objectives, and submits manuscripts for publication and/or presentation at local, state and/or national meetings. *Other duties as outlined by the Pharmacy Director, Drug Use Policy of New York Presbyterian Hospital, Apothecary-in-Chief of New York Presbyterian Hospital, including departmental Administrator-on-call. Performs all duties inherent to managerial role. Participates in hiring, training, evaluation and termination of assigned staff according to hospital policies and procedures. Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.

Preferred Criteria:
  • Completion of a PGY1-PGY2 Residency in Psychiatry
  • 1-3 years of experience as a clinical pharmacist
Required Criteria:
  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy
  • A related Master's or Doctoral Level Academic degree and/or Doctor of Pharmacy degree is also required and completion of an accredited pharmacy residency in the specialty area is desirable
  • Completion of a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
