Job summary

The University of Miami/UHealth seeks a Full Time Manager, Building Facilities in North Miami, FL to lead a team of trades and ensure 24/7 operational efficiency of university facilities.

You will supervise plumbers, carpenters, electricians, HVAC techs, and other staff, manage budgets and invoices, ensure safety compliance, and coordinate with AHJs and university systems to maintain reliable infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Requires strong knowledge of healthcare facility operations and life safety standards.
• Experience coordinating multi-trade teams and budgets.
• CHFM certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Ensures staff completes work assignments timely and safely, adhering to regulations.
• Obtains feedback on customer satisfaction with facilities services.
• Addresses employee relations or performance issues with HR support.
• Reviews reports and resolves identified issues.
• Manages budgets for labor, materials, and contractors; optimizes resources.
• Reviews invoices from outside vendors and approves payments.
• Compiles data to generate budgetary reports and cost trends.
• Ensures staffing during holidays, disasters, and events.
• Ensures time cards are accurate and submitted.
• Maintains internal controls and policy compliance.
• Oversees operation and performance of critical building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, BAS).
• Liaises with AHJs and regulatory inspectors to resolve deficiencies.
• Ensures regulatory compliance with NFPA, CMS, OSHA, and local codes.
• Supports readiness activities for inspections and risk assessments.
• Reviews drawings, permits, and submittals for compliance.
• Participates in emergency preparedness and business continuity.

Manager, Building Facilities The University of Miami/UHealth department of Facilities has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Manager, Building Facilities to work in North Miami, FL. The Manager, Building Facilities manages the activities of various tradesman, including plumbers, carpenters, electricians, HVAC technicians, and other maintenance personnel responsible for ensuring 24/7 operational efficiency of the assigned University facilities.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

• Ensures that staff completes work assignments in a timely and professional fashion, and adheres to all safety regulations.
• Obtains feedback regarding customer satisfaction with facilities services.
• Addresses employee relations or performance issues, with the assistance of Human Resources.
• Reviews and analyzes a variety of reports, and ensures resolution of any identified issues.
• Assists with the maintenance of budgets for labor, materials, contractors, outsourced functions, and other expenses, and provides recommendations regarding the optimization of resources and budget parameters.
• Reviews, analyzes, and approves invoices for materials, supplies, and services from outside companies and contractors.
• Utilizes the appropriate systems to compile data and generate reports for budgetary purposes, which illustrate cost trends and maintenance frequency.
• Ensures appropriate departmental staffing during holidays, disaster preparation and recovery, and other University events.
• Confirms that time cards are completed properly and in a timely manner.
• Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
• Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Department Specific Functions

• Oversees the operation, maintenance, and performance of critical building systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, emergency power, plumbing, fire alarm, fire protection, and building automation systems.
• Serves as the primary liaison with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), including Fire Marshal, Building Department officials, and regulatory inspectors, ensuring timely resolution of deficiencies and compliance findings.
• Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and standards including NFPA, Joint Commission, AHCA, CMS, FGI Guidelines, OSHA, state and local codes, and organizational policies.
• Supports accreditation survey readiness activities including Physical Environment/EC inspections, Life Safety risk assessments, regulatory compliance, and corrective action implementation.
• Reviews engineering drawings, construction documents, permit applications, and technical submittals to ensure compliance with operational and regulatory requirements.
• Participates in emergency preparedness, business continuity, and disaster response activities.

High school diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in facilities management, healthcare, critical environments, or regulated environments, with direct AHJ, accreditation, healthcare construction, and major building systems. Certified Health Care Facility Manager (CHFM) certification preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements, Life Safety standards, and Physical Environment/EC program's Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, emergency power, and building automation systems. Ability to interpret construction drawings, engineering specifications, code requirements, and technical reports. Knowledge of preventive maintenance, asset management, and facility reliability practice's Strong project management and contractor oversight skills. Operational Management: Optimizes day‑to‑day operations and processes for efficiency and effectiveness. Organizational Development: Ability to implement strategies to improve organizational effectiveness, engagement, and manage change. Financial Oversight: Knowledge of financial operations and management. Team Leadership: Ability to create and maintain a cohesive and productive team environment, build positive working relationships and work collaboratively with others. Technical Proficiency: Skilled verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and persuasively. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
