Job summary

Intelas is seeking a lead Biomedical Equipment Technician to mentor and train junior BMETs, ensuring adherence to ISO 13485 and QMS policies. You will plan, direct, and optimize maintenance strategies for complex clinical equipment, supervise calibration, testing, and repairs, and drive KPI improvements for the service contract.

The role involves leading teams, managing on-call duties, and ensuring timely maintenance reports and CMMS data integrity to support client satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in biomedical equipment technology or electronic equipment or equivalent.
  • Military training preferred.

Job description

Mentor and train junior biomedical equipment technicians with in-service educational training on proper use and maintenance of equipment.

Maintain compliance on company ISO:13485 certification standards/QMP policies and requirements. Planning, organizing, and directing the growth, effectiveness and financial performance of the client contract in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Implement KPI improvement strategies.

Complete all required trainings.

Analyze, repair, and test electronic and electromechanical equipment.

Repair, install, maintain, calibrate, and inspect complex clinical equipment, instrumentation, and systems.

Perform planned maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices and systems, and monitor completion of planned maintenance activities performed by outside vendors.

Respond expeditiously to calls from clinical departments and customers to evaluate and rectify valid operator complaints and concerns.

Display effective client service in accordance with client satisfaction survey protocol.

Provide input on client capital replacement strategies for medical equipment and the maintenance requirements.

Lead team huddles and meetings.

Flexibility to work augmented shifts based on unit needs and client contractual requirements.

Maintain an orderly and functional working environment, ensuring tools and test equipment are calibrated and functional before use.

Supervise and instruct biomedical equipment maintenance personnel in the safe use, application, testing, planned maintenance and repair of all types of clinical equipment technologies and systems.

Provide recognition for employee when programs are implemented with success.

Manage disciplinary issues and other employee relations concerns with guidance from Human Resources.

Complete annual employee performance evaluations, competency assessments, training plans, and merit increases on a timely basis.

Establish and administer on-call schedule; assume on-call responsibilities as necessary.

Prepare, present, and explain the equipment database (CMMS) reports.

Maintain accurate inventory and documentation on all equipment, inspections and equipment repairs and failures.

Make recommendations to the Department Manager regarding service strategies on equipment; keep supervisor informed of activities, needs and problems.

Provide accurate and timely database management of CMMS in accordance with QMS policies and procedures.

Review outcome of planned maintenance actions and make recommendations to department staff concerning improvements.

Research and initiate orders for repair parts, working within established budget parameters. Generate purchase orders and effectively find second-source parts.

Maintain accurate records of repairs, calibration, and tests.

Perform other duties as assigned that are intrinsic to the successful operation of the business.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Associate’s Degree in biomedical equipment technology or electronic equipment or equivalent
  • Military training preferred
Experience
  • Minimum of five years servicing a broad representation of clinical/patient care equipment in a hospital environment
  • In-depth knowledge of electronic circuitry and technical aspects of the operation, repair, and planned maintenance of electronic and electromechanical equipment
