Job summary

LUMA Energy is seeking an experienced asset reliability professional to lead asset condition visibility, field verification, and operational feedback to strengthen risk modeling and reliability improvements.

You will guide inspectors, coordinate with Operations, ensure data quality for analytics, and develop dashboards and regulatory-ready reports while supporting PM/CM programs and safety initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering may substitute when accompanied by related experience and knowledge.
  • 8 years of experience in a Utility Environment; 5–7 years in a similar role with at least 3 years supervising staff and managing budgets/projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead inspections across visual, IR thermography, substation audits, and feeder assessments to meet standards and documentation.
  • Coordinate with Operations to validate and drive timely closure of OOS, CM work orders, field actions, and defects.
  • Ensure asset condition data is accurate, field-verified, and ready for analytics and risk modeling.
  • Evaluate root-cause analysis and guide reliability analytics including SAIDI/SAIFI trends and feeder performance.
  • Develop dashboards and audit-ready reports for planning, PREB reporting, and governance reviews.
  • Support Asset Strategy on risk modeling, asset class strategies, and PM/CM program refinement; uphold safety and compliance.
  • Lead planning and execution of restoration and emergency preparedness activities.

Job Summary:

Leads asset condition visibility, field verification, and operational feedback functions to deliver high‑quality data and disciplined defect management. Strengthens coordination between Operations and Asset Management through performance analytics that directly support risk modeling, mitigation selection, and reliability improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Guides regional inspectors to ensure all inspections -including visual, IR thermography, substation audits, and feeder assessments- consistently meet maintenance standards, documentation requirements, and approved inspection methodologies.
  • Coordinates closely with Operations to validate and drive timely closure of Out‑of‑Service (OOS) equipment, Corrective Maintenance (CM) work orders, field corrective actions, Work Requests (WRs), defects, and anomalies, while partnering on process discipline, equipment availability, and reliability escalation logic (P10/P20/P30).
  • Ensures asset condition data is accurate, field‑verified, and fully prepared for ingestion into Asset Strategy & Risk, while confirming alignment of condition findings with PM/CM program expectations.
  • Evaluates root‑cause analysis for asset failures and recurring defects while guiding operational reliability analytics, including SAIDI/SAIFI contributors, feeder performance, and T‑D equipment trend evaluations.
  • Develops dashboards, reports, and insights for planning, prioritization, and PREB reporting, and communicates audit‑ready documentation for regulatory and internal governance reviews.
  • Supports Asset Strategy on risk modeling, asset class strategies, and PM/CM program refinement, while also supporting corporate safety, environmental, and compliance programs.
  • Leads, models and ensures consistent application of policies and regulatory standards across teams to support ethical operations and mitigate compliance risks.
  • Leads and validates the planning and execution of restoration and emergency preparedness activities to strengthen operational resilience and response capacity.
  • Assumes and oversees expanded duties aligned with organizational priorities and professional scope to drive departmental effectiveness and strategic alignment.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering preferred.

Experience

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a similar functional role, with at least 3 years overseeing employees directly, leading teams, budgets and projects in a Supervisor role.
  • 8 years of experience in a Utility Environment.
  • Experience managing day-to-day operations, teams, defining work plans and achieving departmental objectives.

Additional education may substitute for the required experience when it aligns with the competencies and knowledge necessary for the role:

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering may substitute when accompanied by a minimum of 3 years of experience performing related functions and at least 2 years in a Manager role.
  • Asset Condition & Reliability Expertise: Applies deep knowledge of asset health, failure modes, and reliability metrics to evaluate field data and support risk‑based decision‑making.
  • Operational Coordination: Integrates workflows between Operations and Asset Management to drive timely defect closure, enhance process discipline, and strengthen system reliability.
  • Inspection & Standards Leadership: Guides inspectors and enforces consistent maintenance standards, documentation quality, and inspection methodologies across all asset classes.
  • Analytical & Reporting Proficiency: Develops actionable dashboards, trend analyses, and audit‑ready reports that inform planning, regulatory compliance, and reliability improvements.
  • Strategic Program Support: Contributes to risk modeling, asset class strategies, and PM/CM program refinement while reinforcing corporate safety, environmental, and compliance priorities.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Professional Engineer License issued by the Examining Board for Engineers, Architects, Surveyors and Landscape Architects of Puerto Rico is preferred.
  • Membership of College of Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico.
  • Valid driver's license.
