Job description

Position Summary

Under general supervision of Manager of Breast Imaging, the Mammography technologist provides mammographic technical skills to accomplish the Department’s mission. Duties include working as technologist and performing tasks in other areas and/or modalities as necessary. The Mammography technologist performs mammography exams for diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury to patients of all ages. Position: Mammography Technologist-U. Department: Breast Imaging. Schedule: 40 hours.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties
  • Perform mammography exams and complete procedures in a timely fashion while providing quality radiographs for Radiology/mammography and outside departments.
  • Set up equipment, ensure patient calls are timely, efficient, qualitative and complete; maximize patient flow through the Mammography schedule and department initiatives.
  • Use schedule logs to keep patients informed of procedures and delays; prepare patients for exams; position patients to optimize image while preserving comfort and modesty.
  • Perform appropriate studies as determined through policy and procedure; ensure examinations requested match patient condition and/or history; contact appropriate persons for additional information as necessary.
  • Perform timely and quality image acquisition; repeat films when exposure factors are inadequate or additional films required to obtain desired results; respond to additional requests from radiologist, manager, or clinicians.
  • Follow all radiation safety procedures and attend annual compliance briefings or seminars.
  • Cross‑train and provide coverage in other modalities and areas of the Breast Imaging Department as required.
  • Adhere to managed care guidelines and procedures; enter all pertinent patient information into the Information System; maximize codes and reimbursement issues through updates and knowledge base.
  • Provide patient‑focused customer service, communicate complaints professionally, handle phone calls, and treat patients and staff with dignity and respect.
  • Facilitate patient safety by monitoring conditions and coordinating nursing or other assistance when needed.
  • Document procedures accurately in the Radiology Information System, including demographics, requisitions, and billing requirements.
  • Maintain competencies in education, radiation safety, positioning, equipment, quality control, processor/darkroom, record maintenance, contrast media, infection control, and employee training.
  • Follow hospital and department policies regarding interpersonal relations, dress code, badge wearing, and attendance.
  • Assist colleagues with duties and assignments when schedule permits.
Job Requirements (Knowledge and Skills)
  • Maintain equipment following proper handling procedures and safety protocols; troubleshoot, calibrate, and solve equipment issues.
  • Communicate with service vendors regarding equipment and service issues; notify the Manager of problems.
  • Perform basic cleaning and disposal of contaminated equipment.
  • Adhere to all department policies and procedures; continuously problem‑solve to facilitate patient care and high volume demands.
  • Conform to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including patient rights and infection control.
  • Support hospital behavioral standards and participate in quality initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Compensation Range

47.51 - 56.78 per hour. The range is based on minimum job qualifications. Compensation also includes benefits: medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, 403(b) savings, paid time off, career advancement opportunities, and other resources for employee well‑being.
