Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL seeks an experienced radiologic technologist specializing in mammography to join our imaging team. You will operate mammography equipment, educate patients on breast health, and ensure high-quality images for accurate diagnosis.

Candidates must graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology program, hold BLS, and meet credentialing requirements; you will work in a safety-conscious environment that emphasizes patient care and teamwork within UAB Medicine’s

Qualifications

  • BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire or transfer date.
  • Bone Density Certification may be required within 6 months of hire/transfer.
  • Cardiographic Tech (CCI), ARDMS Sonography, or ARRT Radiologic Technologist certification prior to hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mammography equipment and perform procedures with accurate parameters.
  • Explain procedures and educate patients about the role of regular mammography.
  • Develop and evaluate film for density, contrast, definition, and distortion.
  • Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Submit high-quality images and patient data to PACS promptly.
  • Ensure equipment is functioning properly and report issues.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly department and assist in other areas as needed.
  • May perform DEXA bone density scans if applicable.

Job Description

Provide mammography imaging services.

  • Operate equipment and perform various mammography related procedures. Prepare and position patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
  • Explain procedures and educates patients about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health.
  • Develop and evaluate the film for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion.
  • Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
  • Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department
  • May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.
Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Bone Density Certification may be required within 6-months of hire or transfer date (if applicable)
  • One or more of the following required:
    • Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date
    • Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
    • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry ofRadiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required
