St. Luke's Mammography Technologist Job Description

The Mammography Technologist performs diagnostic mammographic and stereotactic examinations, following department procedures under the supervision of the Department Section Chief, Site Manager, and Network Director of Women’s Imaging. This role requires significant judgment in executing duties.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Ensure successful technical care during mammography and stereotactic procedures.
2. Communicate clinical observations to radiologists and surgeons, providing documented clinical history.
3. Assist with breast localizations using mammography guidance.
4. Demonstrate competency with RIS/HIS and mammography reader systems.
5. Participate in gathering and recording QA data for quality assurance and performance improvement.
6. Ensure equipment Quality Control is performed regularly.
7. Train and teach students in mammography, if applicable.
8. Maintain compliance with ACR mammography quality assurance standards.
9. Engage in ongoing professional development through education and training.
10. Provide patients with educational information regarding their examinations.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

Frequent use of hands and fingers, lifting up to 30 pounds, walking and standing for up to 6 hours daily, sitting for up to 2 hours, often lifting arms above shoulder level, occasional stooping, bending, crouching, normal hearing, and vision.

Education

Graduate from an ARRT-recognized program, ARRT registered or eligible, with registration in Mammography required within 1 year of hire. NJ staff must be registered before employment begins.

Training and Experience

Minimum of 1-year staff technologist experience preferred, with prior mammography experience and computer skills. Ongoing continuing education is required. Current CPR certification is mandatory.
