Job description

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, part of the Optum family of businesses, is hiring for a Mammography Technologist to join our dynamic healthcare organization and discover the meaning behind Caring. Connecting. Growing together.

Position will be reporting to 1900 N. Loop West, Suite 310 and 400, Houston, TX 77018

Mammography Tech I:

The Mammography Technologist will be responsible for performing quality patient care and mammographic images for successful diagnostics. This includes creating a tranquil environment so patients can adhere to examination instructions. Under the order of a qualified physician, the technologist will utilize equipment producing ionizing radiation to obtain images for diagnostic purposes, following policies, procedures, and protocols of the KSC Radiology Department and Kelsey-Seybold Clinic. The role involves performing Mammography and DEXA studies and utilizing designated RIS and PACS systems. May be assigned additional duties, technical or non-technical, if training, experience, and credentials are deemed sufficient by the supervisor.

Mammography Tech II:

Under the order of a qualified physician, the technologist will utilize equipment producing ionizing radiation to obtain diagnostic images, including Mammography, DEXA, general radiographic, fluoroscopic, ASC, and SCNB procedures, following departmental policies and protocols. The role involves performing these studies, utilizing RIS and PACS systems, and may include additional duties as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform diagnostic and/or screening mammography and DEXA studies according to departmental policies. Understand technical principles affecting image quality and anatomical orientations. Communicate effectively with patients, considering age-related needs. Maintain an individual repeat rate of < 5% in Mammography.
  • Participate in technical quality control, perform routine equipment maintenance, report malfunctions, and document quality assurance activities. Maintain necessary supplies and logs.
  • Use RIS and PACS systems correctly, document atypical conditions affecting image quality, and identify transmission problems, notifying supervisors as needed.
  • Adhere to radiation safety measures, use shielding devices appropriately, and maintain sterile technique when applicable.
  • Participate in training programs, maintain current licenses and certifications, and comply with continuing education requirements.
  • Interact effectively with patients and staff, communicate clearly, and uphold the organization's mission and values in all interactions.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • ARRT (R) certified, with attainment of ARRT(M) within one year of eligibility
  • BLS Certification through American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associates in Applied Science - Radiology Technology
  • 1+ year of Mammography and DEXA experience
  • ARRT (R) (M)
  • PACS, SCNB, and RIS experience
  • 40 hours mammography training approved by ARRT; 2 years' experience in mammography or 1-year KSC experience in X-ray and/or SCNB
  • Bilingual skills
