DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital is DMC’s largest hospital, offering a comprehensive range of services including heart care, cancer treatment, gerontology, emergency medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, and cosmetic services. Sinai-Grace’s joint replacement program features minimally invasive knee and hip surgeries, attracting patients nationwide. The hospital operates over 21 outpatient care sites and ambulatory surgery centers across Wayne and Oakland Counties. It is one of ten hospitals nationally awarded a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant to help set standards for cardiac care.

Summary Description

Under general supervision and following established policies and procedures, performs diagnostic mammographic exams using appropriate imaging equipment. Verifies patient identity and reviews medical records for exam appropriateness.

  1. Interviews patients to obtain or update medical history, assessing risk factors such as medications, pregnancy, and psychological indicators.
  2. Explains procedures, including side effects of pharmaceuticals, risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up care.
  3. Sets up equipment, acquires images as per script, reviews images, makes initial observations, documents deviations from protocols, and communicates findings to the radiologist.
  4. Recognizes and responds to medical emergencies. Provides post-care instructions as prescribed by physicians.
  5. Participates in quality improvement activities, including patient care, flow, reject-repeat analysis, and satisfaction.
  6. Provides imaging education to residents, students, and new staff.
  7. May be required to take call/standby and perform duties of a Radiologic Technologist as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Mammography (M).
  • Must complete AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers by end of orientation.

Skills Required

  • Analytical and clinical skills to determine appropriate radiographic methods based on patient’s physical ability and limitations.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively instruct patients under stress, and collaborate with diverse hospital personnel.
  • Technical knowledge to operate imaging equipment and computers.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex environment.
  • Knowledge of ACR and MQSA accreditation standards.
  • Physical stamina for walking, standing, lifting, and positioning patients.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to produce diagnostic-quality images.
