Job summary

UAB Medicine in Alabama is seeking a Radiologic Technologist specialized in mammography to join the Radiology department. You will perform screening and diagnostic mammography, position patients, and ensure high-quality images.

This role requires work in UAB St Vincent's Blount location; candidates must hold a formal Radiologic Technology program credential, BLS, and relevant certifications, with potential DEXA capability.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required or within 30 days of hire.
• Bone density certification may be required within 6 months.
• Credentials in mammography or radiography depending on track.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment and perform mammography procedures with proper positioning.
• Explain procedures and educate patients about breast health and screening.
• Evaluate image quality for density, contrast, and accuracy.
• Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
• Submit high-quality images and patient data to PACS with correct markers.
• Maintain clean, orderly department and report equipment issues.
• May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment if applicable.

Job Description

Provide mammography imaging services.

• Operate equipment and perform various mammography related procedures. Prepare and position patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
• Explain procedures and educates patients about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health.
• Develop and evaluate the film for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion.
• Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
• Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
• Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department
• May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Bone Density Certification may be required within 6-months of hire or transfer date (if applicable)
• One or more of the following required:
  • Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date
  • Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registryof Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Minimum Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required
