Job summary

UAB Medicine’s North Tower Mammography department in Birmingham, AL seeks a PRN Mammography Technologist to provide imaging services at UAB St Vincent's Birmingham. Responsibilities include operating mammography equipment, patient positioning, and assuring image quality while educating patients on preventive breast health.

You will maintain radiation safety, submit images to PACS, and support department operations; DEXA scanning may be required where applicable.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
• BLS Provider certification within 1 month of hire date or job transfer date.
• Bone Density Certification may be required within 6 months of hire or transfer date (if applicable).
• Cardiographic Tech credentialed from CCI, ARDMS, or ARRT radiologic technologist (radiography) credential prior to hire date or transfer date.

Responsibilities

• Operate mammography equipment and perform mammography procedures with proper patient positioning and parameter selection.
• Explain procedures and educate patients about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health.
• Develop and evaluate mammography film for quality (density, contrast, definition, distortion).
• Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
• Ensure prompt submission of high-quality images and documents to PACS with correct markers and patient data/history.
• Ensure equipment is functioning properly and report any malfunctions.
• Maintain a clean, orderly department and procedure rooms.
• May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment if applicable.

Job Description

Provide mammography imaging services.

• Operate equipment and perform various mammography related procedures. Prepare and position patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
• Explain procedures and educates patients about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health.
• Develop and evaluate the film for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion.
• Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
• Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
• Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department
• May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Bone Density Certification may be required within 6-months of hire or transfer date (if applicable)
• One or more of the following required:
  • Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date
  • Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry ofRadiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Minimum Requirements:

• Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required
