Job summary

SimonMed Imaging in New York seeks a friendly patient services associate to greet patients, prepare them for mammography, assist with paperwork, and escort patients through the department.

You will verify orders, manage scheduling, maintain exam rooms, stock supplies, coordinate with technologists and radiologists, and ensure safety, confidentiality, and smooth patient flow in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in mammography preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients professionally and compassionately.
  • Prepare patients for mammography exams and explain procedures.
  • Escort patients to and from exam rooms and throughout the department.
  • Complete required forms and documentation prior to exams.
  • Verify exam orders and ensure correct procedures are scheduled (screening vs. diagnostic).
  • Manage scheduling, rescheduling, and confirmations of appointments.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and waiting areas.
  • Assist with maintaining patient flow and minimizing wait times.
  • Communicate with technologists, radiologists, and front desk staff about patient status.
  • Update exam statuses in tracking systems.
  • Provide pre-exam and post-exam instructions and support.

Job description

Job Duties:
  • Greet patients and introduce self in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Prepare patients for mammography exams by assisting with changing, completing paperwork, and explaining basic procedures.
  • Escort patients to and from exam rooms and throughout the department as needed.
  • Ensure all required forms, questionnaires, and documentation are completed accurately prior to exams.
  • Review patient worksheets and verify completeness before technologist begins exam.
  • Assist with maintaining patient flow and minimizing wait times.
  • Communicate effectively with technologists, radiologists, and front desk staff regarding patient status and needs.
  • Assist in scheduling, rescheduling, and confirming patient appointments.
  • Verify exam orders and ensure patients are scheduled for the correct procedures (screening vs. diagnostic, mammogram vs. ultrasound)
  • Request and track prior imaging studies; ensure proper documentation and patient authorizations are completed.
  • Update exam statuses in tracking systems (e.g., tech start/end, unread exams, awaiting comparison)
  • Complete and maintain exam documentation, including notes, worksheets, and system entries.
  • Ensure proper assignment of exams to technologists and radiologists.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, dressing rooms, and waiting areas.
  • Stock supplies such as gowns, linens, and wipes.
  • Assist with preparation for specialized procedures such as stereotactic biopsies as directed.
  • Provide patients with pre-exam and post-exam instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and patient confidentiality standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 0-2 years of experience in a healthcare, radiology, or patient care setting preferred
  • Previous experience in imaging services or women's health is a plus.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in mammography preferred (may vary by employer)
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Bilingual (e.g., English/Spanish) preferred but not required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Basic understanding of mammography procedures and workflow (screening and diagnostic)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide compassionate care to patients in sensitive situations.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Ability to follow instructions and seek guidance when needed.
  • Proficiency with computers and medical documentation systems

  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively with clinical and administrative staff.
  • Physical ability to stand and walk frequently, assist patients, and lift up to 40 pounds.
