Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Pay range: $35.36/hr - $50.93/hr

The Mammography Technologist works under the direction of the radiologists and the lead mammographer while proficiently performing a variety of mammographic procedures, including but not limited to special procedures and Dexa Scans. Works in Breast Health Clinic, Surgical Services, and on the Mobile Mammography Van as scheduled.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performed majority of the time:

  1. Properly operates all departmental mammography equipment Dexa unit.
  2. Assists Radiologist in special procedures in mammography.
  3. Obtains patient history, pertinent information, and accurately charges exams daily.
  4. Provides care appropriate to the age of patients served adult and geriatric patients based on principles of growth and development and life stages.
  5. Performs QC and charts results accurately.
  6. Performs intra-operative specimen imaging as assigned.
  7. Research and call for prior images.
  8. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of technologist work areas and procedures rooms.
  9. Maintains adequate stock; restocks as needed.
  10. Maintains 15 hours of continuing education in mammography per MQSA.
  11. Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.

Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job:

  1. Maintains a minimum of 20 mammography exams per month per MQSA.
  2. Assists in performing first aid as directed, when necessary.
  3. Attends and participates in departmental meetings.
  4. Attends and participates in community events.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education:

Required

· Graduated from an accredited program in medical radiography or radiologic sciences strongly preferred.

Experience:

· Previous hospital or radiologic clinic experience strongly preferred.

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

Required

  1. Oregon State License as a radiologic technologist.
  2. Mammography certification through ARRT within 6 months of hire.
  3. Must have a valid driver’s license.
  4. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS preferred upon hire, and required within 90 days of hire.
  5. If not American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certified upon hire, must have current BLS certification through another provider.

Preferred

  1. Bone Densitometry certification through ARRT or Certified Bone Densitometry Technologist (CBDT).
  2. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to drive mobile mammography unit.

Job Related Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:

Required

  1. Excellent customer service and effective communication skills.
  2. Must have demonstrated skills in caring for the adult and geriatric patients.
  3. Shows ability to develop skills in use of computerized information/ordering system.
  4. Uses proper radiation safety protection of patients and personnel.
  5. Practices sterile techniques and follows proper procedures for blood and body fluid precautions.
  6. Effectively utilizes PACS system.
  7. Follows procedures for use of personal protective equipment, infection control, and disposal of hazardous waste and sharps.
  8. Demonstrates confidentiality according to PHI regarding patient and co-worker information.

· Bilingual skills a plus.

· May occasionally drive an organization-owned vehicle as part of their job and is considered a Commercial Driver’s License.

· Must have a satisfactory driving record which is defined as:

  1. No more than two (2) accidents and one (1) moving violation or
  2. Two (2) moving violations and one (1) accident or
  3. Three (3) moving violations and no accidents on or off the job within the past 36 months, and
  4. No conviction for driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUI, suspended, auto felony convictions, or other serious violations) within the past 36 months.
