Major Responsibilities
- Determination of appropriate radiographic/mammographic technique and positioning of the patient for specified exams.
- Positioning patient and operating equipment to ensure radiography/mammography of designated body parts as specified by the physician.
- Determining appropriate radiographic/mammographic techniques based on anatomy and patient’s condition to obtain high-quality images.
- Securing patient history regarding the reason for the test and recording it for radiologist review.
- Labeling radiographic films according to department standards.
- Processing radiographs according to manufacturer specifications.
Additional Responsibilities
- Ensuring radiographic exams adhere to standards for interpretation.
- Preparing radiology jackets and folders; making prior films available when appropriate.
- Preparing information for radiology billing, including history and technologist initials.
- Loading and unloading rolloscope for radiologist reading, ensuring exams are interpreted within 24 hours.
Quality Control & Safety
- Understanding and performing required quality control tests.
- Checking sensitometry films prior to patient exams.
- Collecting data according to ACR/FDA standards.
- Reporting equipment malfunctions and maintaining service records.
- Maintaining a safe environment by adhering to safety standards, ensuring cleanliness, maintaining CPR certification, and participating in safety training.
Patient Care & Department Operations
- Coordinating patient flow and paperwork to minimize waiting times.
- Adapting processes as needed for departmental needs.
- Following proper communication etiquette and participating in team problem-solving.
- Assisting colleagues and performing clerical functions.
Supply Management
- Monitoring and maintaining adequate supply levels and organizing work areas.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Graduate of AMA-approved Radiologic Technology program.
- Minimum of three years of radiologic technology experience; mammography experience preferred.
- Knowledge of radiography services; outpatient experience preferred.
Certifications & Licensing
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Mammography (RTM).
- Licensed by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety (IDNS).
Physical & Working Conditions
- Exposure to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, work in a fast-paced environment, and work rotating shifts.
- Ability to transport objects and handle patients safely.
