The Mammography Technologist performs mammography screening, diagnostic evaluations and procedures to support the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in patients. This position assists in the training of students and technologists in Mammography. The Technologist maintains optimum timeliness, accuracy, proficiency, efficiency, and safety during the execution of duties, and works closely with patients to ensure they have an understanding of procedures and are comfortable.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

• _ Schedule: Part Time, 16 hours between 7:30am - 4pm, Monday - Frida_y
• Gather information on patients’ illnesses and medical history to guide the choice of diagnostic procedures for therapy. Explain test procedures and safety precautions to patients and provide them with assistance during test procedures.
• Conduct mammography study by positioning breasts; adjusting compression mechanisms; instructing patient to hold breath; retreating to lead protected area; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors; activating equipment to take image; releasing compression mechanisms; preparing for next positioning and view.
• Minimize radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques.
• Position the patient and equipment correctly to produce results with the best quality. Ensure operation of mammography equipment by completing preventive maintenance; instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories.
• Keep mammography supplies and patient drapes ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; collecting and processing laundry.
• Maintain production and quality of mammograms by following established standards and procedures; develop mammograms; observe mammogram results; determine necessary adjustments for optimum results; retaking mammograms as required; forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation. Document patient mammogram services by completing patient record charting.
• Collaborate on patient medical issues with the physician to determine protocol and procedure.
• Complete all mammography, bone density, breast ultrasound exams, and procedures; identify optimal images, evaluates and submits for physician review, according to policy and protocol.
• Confirm patient identity and obtain and record patient identification; review and update patient documentation in EMR/PACS.
• Practice established safety and quality guidelines (MASA/ARC), and utilize ALARA radiation reduction tools and techniques.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Professional/Vocational/Trade Training in Radiology required
• Associate’s Degree in Radiology preferred
• 1 year of Mammography experience preferred
• Indiana Radiology License required
• ARRT-R certification required
• Mammography (ARRT-M) required within 1 year of hire
