Responsibilities

• Introduce yourself to patients and explain procedures.
• Reassure patients, reduce anxiety, and obtain cooperation.
• Understand and respond to patients' needs and anxieties.
• Relate to each patient's physical and emotional needs and position accordingly.
• Perform mammography services/exams at South Suburban Hospital.
• Use appropriate radiographic techniques for all procedures.
• Position patients for routine and additional views as requested.
• Perform and document daily QC tests prior to exams.
• Verify physician orders and distinguish between screening and diagnostic exams.
• Obtain and document pertinent patient history.
• Screen for pregnancy in female patients of childbearing age.
• Maintain supplies and cleanliness of the assigned room daily.
• Maintain and operate mammographic and processing equipment, perform QC tests.
• Select proper paddle size and views, position units correctly, and determine exposure factors.
• Label mammographic films per quality standards.
• Document follow-up procedures and maintain patient files.
• Assist radiologists with needle localizations and biopsies.
• Support colleagues and adapt to schedule changes.
• Adhere to safety protocols, maintain certifications, and operate equipment safely.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved radiology technology school with 3-5 years radiographic experience.
• ARRT registered, Mammography ARRT registered, IEMA licensure, CPR certified.
• Competent with hospital computer systems and x-ray equipment.

Physical & Working Conditions

• Flexible hours, ability to lift/push/pull 50 lbs. with assistance, effective communication skills.

Additional Notes

This role requires recognizing patient needs across age groups and may involve patient handling equipment for lifts over 35 lbs. Maintain all safety and institutional policies. The description is not exhaustive and other duties may be assigned.
