Job description

Under the general direction from the Manager, the incumbent completes requirements to obtain Mammography licensure under supervision to gain competence in the operation of mammographic equipment and patient care and positioning. After licensure, the individual independently performs screening mammography. Image quality is evaluated according to MQSA/State regulations and departmental guidelines. The incumbent works with designated training Mammographer(s) while working toward licensure; then as an individual contributor and part of a multidisciplinary team once licensure is obtained. Additional duties may be assigned, and coverage at alternate MGB sites may be required with adequate training to ensure seamless patient care.

Responsibilities:

1. Train to complete initial qualifications and competence in performing mammography per MQSA/State regulations and ARRT requirements under supervision to obtain active licensure.
2. Confirm correct patient and exam through patient confirmation, interview, history, and medical records; modify and document as needed for accurate imaging and records. Explain the exam considering individual physical, emotional, and language needs to ensure patient compliance and understanding.
3. Adjust equipment settings for all exams, including automated and manual technical factors, to safely image patients.
4. Perform screening mammography exams according to departmental protocol and/or Radiologist request.
5. Ensure exams are labeled correctly prior to transmission to PACS and that images successfully arrive in PACS.
6. Adhere to all departmental and hospital policies.

Qualifications:

• Certificate/Diploma in medical imaging required.
• Associate's degree preferred.
• ARRT (R) certification required.
• ARRT (M) certification required within one year.
• Massachusetts Rad Tech license required.
