Job description

MedStar Health is looking for a Mammography Manager to join our team at Medstar Washington Hospital Center!

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the manager is responsible for management of all aspects of technical and administrative operations of the Breast Imaging Center. Coordinates/oversees workflow to maximize efficiency and productivity and minimize any delays to the patient. Ensures the outreach programs comply with ACR/MQSA. Works with the coordinator of the Capital Breast Care Center in establishing guidelines for patient care and ensures compliance with ACR/MQSA.

Primary Duties:
  • Provides leadership, coordination, and support for Breast Imaging Center staff. Develops and communicates goals and objectives to work group(s). Performs department personnel management functions including hiring/firing, performance appraisal, work assignments, and coaching/counseling. Sets and ensures compliance with standards for conduct of work.
  • Monitors and manages financial performance; justifies variances; prepares budgets for the area. Assists in maintaining charge and billing system and ensures accuracy of data entries. Assures a high quality of mammography and customer services; maintains standards in compliance with the requirements of accrediting and regulatory agencies. Directs the development of information and technical systems or processes to meet department objectives and customer requirements.
  • Approves policies and procedures and assures employee compliance with all policies and procedures. Assures effective intra and interdepartmental communication; provides operational updates and financial reports to the Executive Director as required. Identifies performance improvement opportunities and implements performance improvements. Assures that problems and customer complaints are effectively resolved, and follow-up has occurred.
  • Manages procurement functions including equipment justifications, purchasing, contract review, and supply /inventory control. Ensures that department operations are conducted safely and in accordance with all hospital and governing bodies’ rules/regulations.
  • Performs duties of a Mammography Technologist including: Schedules and prepares patients for examinations and reviews patient records for appropriate history and orders; Performs all quality control techniques to ensure consistency in imaging; Films images and delivers films to radiologist for STAT readings; Prepares reports and maintains records of exams performed using the radiology department computer system. Reconciles all errors found on these reports and verifies that all exams meet quality assurance standards and are accurate; Completes all required information system functions to assure proper patient information, billing, exam, and other necessary functions; Ensures compliance with ACR/MQSA for mammography; Trains staff to complete required functions on the Radiology Information System and maintains proper use of the system by all personnel; and Monitors the technical accuracy of films. Directs retakes. Demonstrates proper operation of new/existing equipment
