Schedule Details/Additional Information: 10:00-6:30 M-Th, 7:30-4:00 Friday. Rotating Saturdays.
Pay Range: $35.50 - $53.25
Major Responsibilities
- Determination of appropriate radiographic/mammographic technique and positioning of patient for specified exam.
- Position patient and operate equipment for optimal images of designated body portion.
- Determine appropriate radiographic/mammographic technique based on anatomy and patient condition to obtain high quality images.
- Secure patient history regarding reason for test and enter data into appropriate system for radiologist review.
- Assure patient data is correct according to department standards.
- Successfully send images to second look system, soft copy workstation and archival system.
- Determine when radiographic exam adheres to interpretation standards.
- Obtain radiology jacket and report folder.
- Ensure prior films and reports available with correct order.
- Track patient through RIS to ensure proper billing.
- Complete RIS by closing patient on patient history system.
- Ensure images received on soft copy workstation and PACS archival system.
- Participate in advanced mammographic procedures such as galactograms, needle localizations, and stereotactic biopsies.
- Ensure availability of necessary supplies for procedures.
- Obtain previous patient studies prior to procedure.
- Perform needle verification on multi‑care unit to ensure equipment accuracy.
- Check mammogram machine prior to needle location/galactogram.
- Perform procedures independently with radiologist and obtain specimens.
- Prepare patient for exam, including setting up trays, prepping patients and assessing medical needs.
- Apply post‑procedure dressings and education.
- Adhere to all accepted safety standards and practices to maintain safe patient and work environment.
- Maintain compliance with established safety standards to protect patients and staff.
- Attend mandatory patient safety in‑services.
- Maintain cleanliness and neatness of work areas.
- Maintain current CPR certification.
- Deliver patient care in accordance with departmental standards.
- Coordinate and prioritize patient flow and paperwork to minimize waiting time and adapt processes as needed.
- Follow proper telephone etiquette.
- Participate in team problem‑solving to improve patient care, department operations, quality assurance, interdepartmental relationships, and employee satisfaction.
- Demonstrate rapport and assist others when necessary.
- Perform miscellaneous clerical functions.
- Identify and document department supplies to ensure adequate supply levels.
- Monitor inventory of supplies, report deficiencies, and stock/exchange exam and changing rooms daily.
- Participate in quality control and quality assurance programs.
- Identify errors with machinery and basic problem‑solving techniques.
- Report equipment malfunctions to Mammography Coordinator or Manager.
Education and Experience
Graduate of AMA approved school/program of Radiologic Technology. Three years experience as a Radiologic Technologist. This position requires recognition of needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Mammography experience preferred.
- Knowledge of radiography services.
- Basic knowledge of RIS.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in both Radiology and Mammography.
- Licensed by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety (IDNS).
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
May be exposed to hazardous materials and radiation. Flexible in changing environment. Ability to lift and/or move patients, work in fast‑paced environment with time constraints, and rotate shifts any day of the week. Ability to transport objects between locations. Lifting requirement: Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; for patient lifts over 35 pounds or when patient cannot assist, patient handling equipment and at least one other associate are required when available.
