The ideal candidate is ARRT registered in Radiology and Mammography, with AMA‑approved education and Illinois licensing; minimum three years of radiologic experience, strong RIS knowledge, and excellent communication to support

Department: 36327 Advocate Lutheran General Hospital - Breast Center

Status: Full time

10-630pm M-Thursday. 730-4 on Friday, Saturday rotation

Pay Range

$35.50 - $53.25

Major Responsibilities: Determination of appropriate radiographic/mammographic technique and position of patient for specified exam. 1)Positions patient and operates equipment to assure optimal images of designated portion of the body. 2)Determines appropriate radiographic/mammographic technique based on anatomy and patient’s condition to obtain high quality radiographic images. 3)Secures history from patient regarding reason for prescribed test and enters data in the appropriate system for the radiologist’s review. 4)Assures patient data is correct according to department standards. 5)Successfully sends images to second look system, soft copy workstation and archival system. Determines when radiographic exam adheres to standards set forth for radiographic interpretation. 1)Obtains radiology jacket and report folder. 2)Assure prior films and reports are available along with correct order for determined exam. 3)Tracks patient through on the RIS to ensure proper billing for appropriate exam. 4)Completes RIS by closing patient on patient history system. 5)Ensures images have been received on Soft copy workstation and PACS archival system. Participates in more advanced mammographic procedures such as galactograms, needle localizations, and stereotactic biopsies. 1)Assures availability of necessary supplies for procedures. 2)Obtains previous patient studies prior to onset of procedure. 3)Perform needle verification on multicare unit to ensure equipment accuracy. Checks mammogram machine prior to needle loc/galactogram. 4)Performs procedures independently along with radiologist along with obtaining specimens. 5)Prepares patient for exam, including setting up trays, prepping patients and assessing patient’s medical needs if necessary. 6)Applies post procedure dressings and education. Adherence to all accepted safety standards and practices to ensure a safe patient and work environment by maintaining a continued awareness of safety hazards. 1)Maintains compliance with established safety standards to protect patients and staff at all times. 2)Attends mandatory in-services relating to patient safety. 3)Insures cleanliness, neatness by overall appearance of designated work areas. 4)Maintains current CPR certification. Delivery of patient care in accordance with departmental standards. 1)Coordinates and prioritizes the flow of patients and paper work, to assure that patient’s waiting time is kept to a minimum. When necessary, changes the process to adapt to the needs of the department. 2)Follows proper telephone etiquette. 3)Participates in team problem-solving issues that would improve patient care, department operations, quality assurance, interdepartmental relationships, and employee satisfaction. 4)Demonstrates rapport and assists others when necessary. 5)Able to perform miscellaneous clerical functions. Identification and documentation of department supplies to ensure adequate supply levels. 1)Monitor inventory of supplies and report deficiencies to coordinator to ensure adequate level of supplies. 2)Stocks and straightens up exam and changing rooms daily. Participates in Quality Control and Quality Assurance Programs 1)Ability to indentify errors with machinery and basic problem solving techniques. 2)Reports equipment malfunctions to Mammography Coordinator or Manager. Education/Experience Required: Graduate of AMA approved school/program of Radiologic Technology. Three years experience as a Radiologic Technologist. This position will need to recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Mammography experience preferred. Knowledge of radiography services. Basic knowledge of RIS Excellent interpersonal communication skills. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in both Radiology and Mammography Licensed by the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety (IDNS) Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: May be exposed to hazardous materials. Flexible in changing environment. Ability to lift and/or move patients. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints. Ability to work rotating shifts any day of the week. Ability to transport objects from one location to another. Radiation exposure. If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
