Job summary

Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, IL is seeking a part-time Radiologic Technologist specializing in Mammography to support the imaging department.

The role requires ARRT certification, state licensure, CPR, and 1+ year of Mammography experience; duties include image optimization, patient preparation, QC, QA, and teamwork.

The position offers a 20-hour week schedule (Weds and Fri 7:30am-6:00pm) with occasional Saturdays, on-site work, and a pay range of $35.50-$53.25 per hour.

Qualifications

  • ARRT certified radiologic technologist with mammography experience desired.
  • - Must be ARRT certified and licensed radiographic technologist.
  • - CPR certification and ability to operate radiographic equipment with minimal supervision.
  • - Knowledge of Mammography procedures and QA processes.

Responsibilities

  • Determines mammographic image quality using proper compression, technique and positioning.
  • Positions patient and operates mammography equipment and PACS.
  • Assists Radiologists with stereotactic and needle localization exams.
  • Ensures safety and maintains department standards; participates in QA and QC.
  • Provides instruction to staff and students as needed.

This position will work Wednesdays and Fridays 7:30am-6:00pm

Rotates occasional Saturdays at the main Hospital

X-Ray required

Extra hours available for pick up at the main hospital and other offsite locations should candidate be interested

Pay Range:

$35.50 - $53.25

Major Responsibilities: Determines mammographic optimal image quality by using proper compression, technique and positioning. 3)Secures history from patient regarding reason for mammography exam and records on appropriate form for Radiologists information. 1)Positions patient, adjusts equipment, and compression devices as necessary, using tact and courtesy at all times 2)Determines appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient’s condition to obtain quality films to provide Radiologist with a diagnostic tool. Operation of advanced and sophisticated state of the art digital mammography equipment and PACS 1)Assists Radiologists with stereotaticand needle localization exams. 2)Operates mammograpghy equipment, film printer, desitometor and PACS equipment. 3)Prepares procedure rooms for exams and maintains equipment as required. 4)Ability to troubleshoot diagnostic mammography and PACS equipment and communicate appropriately before equipment. Contacts service when needed. becomes a major breakdown. 5)Performs daily phantom QC in accordance with manufaturer quidelines. Delivery of patient care and a “Service First” approach in accordance with departmental standards of continued quality improvement 2)Demonstrates excellent communication skills by answering questions from various hospital personnel, coordinating patient flow, and communicating with other technologists. 3)Maintains positive customer relations following prescribed department policies 4)Assumes leadership role in absence of mammography lead to ensure continuity of department operations to include QA and QC procedures in addition to patient care 5)Participates in team problem-solving issues that would improve patient care, department operations, image quality, inter-departmental relationships and employee satisfaction. 6)Is self-directed in securing supplies and equipment for the department. 1)Coordinates the flow of patients into and out of the department in accordance with established departmental procedures. Transports and or escorts patients into and out of department when necessary. Participates and assists the coordinators and manager with image quality activities. 1)Checks image quality to assure optimum quality and makes sure correct image labeling is provided. 2)Participates and recommends changes that would improve image quality. Ensure a secure and safe patient and work environment by maintaining continued awareness of safety hazards 1)Adheres to safety practices and provides a safe work environment for self and others Development of leadership skills and professionalism for self through participation in department and/or hospital based committees and continuing education programs 7)Assumes a leadership role in providing instruction and direction to students participating in the clinical program and helps evaluate performance. 8)Provides instruction and direction to Technologists in the performance of specific related duties. 9)Provides inservices to the technical staff in order to maintain technical competence 1)Attends to personal work schedule in a consistent and professional manner. 2)Demonstrates self-direction by identifying learning needs and establishing self-development activities. 3)Completes all development goals and departmental inservices and competencies, within timeframe 4)Attends and participates in department meetings 5)Works independently while maintaining adaptability and flexibility for change 6)Identifies problems and takes steps toward resolution.

Education/Experience Required: - Must be ARRT certified Minimum of one year Mammography experience preferred -This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, ie., understand child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging; prior experience with various age groups is preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: -Ability to work independently and able to perform most sophisticated and specialty procedures with minimal supervision. -Ability to operate most radiographic equipment within work areas of Mammogrphy -Demonstrates knowledge and confidence in performance of Mammogrphy procedures. -Demonstrates good team work and cooperation with internal/external customers. -Good communication skills. -Demonstrates leadership abilities. -Licensed Radiographic Technologist by the IDNS. -CPR certification -ARRT certified Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: -Exposed to radiation. -Ability to operate portable equipment. -Ability to communicate with patients. -Ability to adjust to flexible work hours. -Ability to work weekends, holidays and emergency call-back. -Ability to participate in the “on-call” program and available to department needs with minimal notice. -Ability to do light, medium or heavy lifting. LIGHT: Lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. MEDIUM: Lifting up to 20-50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds constantly. HEAVY: Lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. -Ability to make independent professional decisions using good judgment skills. -Ability to practice high quality patient care and technical competence. -Ability to function with minimal assistance in performing job activities. -Ability to demonstrate oral and written communication skills. -May be exposed to hazardous chemicals such as film processing chemicals. -Ability to attend out-of-town site visits to view equipment. If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
