Job summary

Bon Appétit Management Company is hiring a full-time Sous Chef at Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA. Open availability is required; schedule may vary. You will assist the Executive Chef and lead kitchen staff, ensuring timely production and adherence to safety standards.

Prior fine dining catering experience is preferred; compensation ranges from $28.00 to $32.00 per hour plus benefits. Applications accepted on an ongoing basis.

Qualifications

• Previous fine dining catering experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Cooks and prepares food per approved recipes and production standards; meet deadlines.
• Supervises hourly food service staff, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, and discipline.
• Stores food in designated areas following corporate, state, and federal safety procedures.
• Ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control and serving temperatures.
• Maintains sanitation of equipment and workstation; cleans area; keeps displays debris-free during service.
• Interacts with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-focused manner; relays info to supervisor.
• Demonstrates understanding of daily menu items and explains them to staff and customers.
• Keeps up with peak production and service hours.
• Monitors inventory and deliveries; tracks production, consumption and waste; informs supervisor when low.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
