"Love seeing small differences make big changes." - Current Support Worker

Dimensions is proud to be recognised as a Great Place to Work for 8 years running.

About the role

We're looking for a confident, proactive and friendly male Support Worker to join our team in WR5, supporting one fantastic 28-year-old gentleman with a learning disability, cerebral palsy, severe anxiety and possible autism.

He communicates without words but expresses himself clearly through gestures, humour and routine. He's an active, social and lively young man who loves being out and about - and you'll play an essential role in helping him enjoy the structure, reassurance and fun he thrives on.

Who you will be supporting

He is a sociable, energetic and outgoing person who enjoys:

  • Day centres (three times a week)
  • Weekly visits with his mum
  • Disco nights and rock school
  • Walks, parks and being outdoors
  • Joking, laughing and teasing staff
  • Meeting new people and being around others

He is happiest when active and engaged. He can become anxious during transitions or waiting periods, so confidence, humour and positive distraction skills are essential.

Support needs include:
  • Personal care: Minimal - mostly prompting
  • Wheelchair: Yes - he pushes himself
  • Hoists: Not required
  • Support in eating: No
  • Meal preparation: Yes
  • Medication: Yes
  • Behaviour support: Being mindful, confident and able to redirect anxiety positively
Family involvement:

He has weekly family visits, so building a warm, respectful relationship with his family is important.

What you will be doing

This is a rewarding, relationship-focused role supporting him to live confidently, safely and joyfully. You will:

  • Support daily routines and provide structure
  • Use humour and conversation to redirect anxiety
  • Prepare meals and support with household tasks
  • Provide gentle prompting with personal care
  • Support mobility (self-propelled wheelchair)
  • Drive him to activities and appointments
  • Join him at discos, day centres, parks and community events
  • Create fun, positive and meaningful experiences
  • Help manage behaviours of distress using proactive, calm approaches
Shift patterns

This is a 20-hour role with sleep-ins included:

  • 3:00 pm - 10:00 am - includes sleep-in
  • 10:00 pm - 7:00 am - sleep-in (£50 paid to sleep)

Rotas are planned in advance to support a healthy work-life balance.

About you

You will be a great fit if you are:

  • Confident, chatty and comfortable joking around
  • Active, outdoorsy and always willing to get involved
  • Calm, patient and great at redirecting anxiety
  • Good at spotting signs of distress early
  • Positive, supportive and values-driven
  • Someone who builds rapport quickly
  • A manual driver with your own car

Experience is helpful but not essential — full training is provided.

Rewards that make a difference
  • A competitive pay rate with uplift for any overtime you choose to work
  • 30 days' paid annual leave (including public holidays - pro rata)
  • Buy and sell holiday options
  • Salary advance scheme - access up to 50% of pay before payday
  • £200 refer-a-friend bonus
  • Life Assurance and Company Pension
  • Comprehensive wellbeing strategy and staff listening network
  • Enhanced DBS paid for by us
