Job summary

The La Porte County Public Library is seeking a Makerspace Team Lead to supervise daily operations of the LPCPL Exchange, its vibrant makerspace. You will lead staff, volunteers, and interns, ensure excellent customer service, and coordinate maker programs and classes.

You’ll work with customers on devices and maker equipment, manage reservations, maintain tools, and partner with staff to promote education and creativity while upholding library policies and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Public service orientation and commitment to excellent customer service.
• One year of experience with makerspaces preferred.
• Complete training on maker and STEAM equipment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment such as 3D printers, vinyl cutters, laser cutters, CNC.
• Proficiency with computers and library software.
• Valid Indiana driver’s license.
• Take charge in emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Assign and supervise daily work of staff, volunteers, and interns.
• Provide first point of contact for customers and in person requests for assistance.
• Provide hands-on customer service, research assistance, answer customer questions and help users with computers and makerspace equipment.
• Assist customers with use of the library website, digital content and online tools.
• Operate a point-of-sale system and handle cash; complete required paperwork.
• Coordinate and promote library classes, events and initiatives.
• Lead projects and manage maker-space reservations and equipment.
• Maintain tools and maker equipment; perform basic maintenance and safety checks.
• Provide services at other library locations as needed.
• Perform light cleaning and janitorial tasks and report complex issues.
