Job summary

Richmond City Public Schools Richmond High School for the Arts in Richmond, VA seeks a Majorettes/Flag Coach to lead the squad. This temporary, part-time role starts immediately and reports to the School Principal and Student Activities Director.

You will plan practices, coach VHSL activities, coordinate uniforms and equipment, supervise safety and discipline, and help organize an annual recognition program for participants.

Qualifications

• All coaches must be licensed teachers regularly employed by the School Board, or have special permission from the Superintendent's office and the VHSL to coach.
• Must demonstrate ability to develop and manage athletic activities sanctioned by VHSL.
• Bilingual skills to include Spanish are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coaches activities sanctioned by VHSL as appropriate.
• Plan and schedule regular practice in season.
• Coach participants in skills for excellence in the sport.
• Assist in selection and evaluation of assistant coaches.
• Collaborate on purchases of uniforms, equipment and supplies.
• Oversee maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of uniforms and equipment.
• Adhere to VHSL policies and district regulations.
• Enforce discipline and sportsmanship at all times.
• Issue and collect school properties used.
• Plan annual recognition program for participants.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Work Location: Richmond High School for the Arts

Immediate Supervisor: School Principal and Student Activities Director

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for the coaching activities sanctioned by the Virginia High School League, as considered appropriate.

• Responsible for planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.

• Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport.

• Assists in the selection, assignment and evaluation of assistant coaches.

• Works in collaboration and cooperation with the student activities director and other personnel in recommending the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies.

• Oversees or helps oversee maintenance, safety and cleanliness of uniforms, equipment, supplies and the facility or area to be used.

• Adheres to all VHSL policies and procedures as well as regulations imposed by the RPS division.

• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times.

• Responsible for the issuing and collecting of all school properties used.

• Cooperatively plans for an annual recognition program for all qualifying participating students.

• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Must have demonstrated ability to develop and manage athletic activities sanctioned by VHSL.

• Bilingual skills to include Spanish are a plus.

Salary: $900 to $1,100 Stipend

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Non-term contract, serves from year to year based on the performance assessment and the recommendation of the Principal.

PAY SCALE: 0-5 years of experience $900 and 6+ years $1,100

START DATE: Based on School Board approval
