Job summary

Richmond Public Schools is seeking a Boys Volleyball Assistant Coach at Richmond High School for the Arts. This temporary, part-time position supports VHSL-sanctioned activities, with immediate start and supervision by the School Principal and Student Activities Director.

The role requires proper teacher certification or VHSL permission and an ability to coordinate practice schedules, oversee equipment, and uphold safety and discipline standards in alignment with VHSL policies.

Qualifications

• Licensed teacher regularly employed by the School Board, or have special permission from the Superintendent's office and VHSL.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage VHSL-sanctioned athletic activities.
• Bilingual Spanish skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Coach activities sanctioned by VHSL as appropriate.
• Plan and schedule a regular in-season practice program.
• Coach participants to develop sport-specific skills.
• Assist in selecting, assigning, and evaluating assistant coaches.
• Collaborate on purchases of uniforms, equipment and supplies.
• Oversee maintenance and safety of uniforms, equipment, and facilities.
• Enforce VHSL policies and school regulations.
• Issue and collect school properties used.
• Plan annual recognition for qualifying students.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Job Title: Boys Volleyball Assistant Coach

Terms of Employment: Temporary

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Work Location: Richmond High School for the Arts

Immediate Supervisor: School Principal and Student Activities Director

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for the coaching activities sanctioned by the Virginia High School League, as considered appropriate.
• Responsible for planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.
• Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport.
• Assists in the selection, assignment and evaluation of assistant coaches.
• Works in collaboration and cooperation with the student activities director and other personnel in recommending the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies.
• Oversees or helps oversee maintenance, safety and cleanliness of uniforms, equipment, supplies and the facility or area to be used.
• Adheres to all VHSL policies and procedures as well as regulations imposed by the RPS division.
• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times.
• Responsible for the issuing and collecting of all school properties used.
• Cooperatively plans for an annual recognition program for all qualifying participating students.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• All coaches of inter-school and League activities shall be licensed teachers regularly employed by the School Board, or otherwise have special permission from the Superintendent's office and the Virginia High School League (VHSL) in order to coach or sponsor an activity.
• Must have demonstrated ability to develop and manage athletic activities sanctioned by VHSL.
• Bilingual skills to include Spanish are a plus.

Benefits

• LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Non-term contract, serves from year to year based on the performance assessment and the recommendation of the Principal.
• PAY SCALE: 0-5 years of experience $1,600 and 6+ years $2,200
• START DATE:Based on School Board approval
• Position Type: Part-Time
• Salary: $1,200 to $1,600 Stipend
