Job summary

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is seeking a Philanthropy Officer to cultivate and manage a portfolio of donors capable of gifts at $10,000 and above. The role targets growing giving and loyalty through personal meetings, donor stewardship, and strategic outreach.

The position combines office duties with travel around Maine and nationwide, and includes benefits, paid time off, and a Gardens membership. Compensation ranges from $70,000 to $120,000 depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of current prospects and donors capable of gifts of $10,000 and above, with an emphasis on person-to-person meetings. Responsible for raising a minimum of $1 million annually.
• Develop and implement strategies for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts of $10,000+, leading appointments with major gift prospects.
• Articulate the Gardens' goals with enthusiasm, warmth, intelligence, and professionalism.
• Respond to donor inquiries and maintain excellent donor relations; participate in donor acknowledgement and stewardship activities.
• Work with Philanthropy staff to move donors along the member-to-major-donor continuum prioritizing relationships.
• Develop collaborative relationships across the Gardens.
• Allocate resources to maximize efficiency and accuracy in the Gardens’ work.
• Provide timely reports on activity, status, and timelines.
• Record donor data and interactions in the donor information system and utilize analytics.
• Attend key Gardens events as necessary to steward donor relationships.
