Job summary

Newport Mental Health is seeking a Major Gifts Officer to lead year-round cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for a portfolio of donors giving $1,000 or more annually. This role also oversees the agency’s 100 Women initiative, coordinating donor events and stewardship opportunities.

The ideal candidate has 4+ years in major gifts, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage relationships across the organization with tact and integrity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Fundraising, Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or Social Entrepreneurship.
  • 4+ years’ experience managing a major gifts portfolio and capital campaigns.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with public speaking and presentation abilities.
  • Healthcare knowledge preferred.
  • Strong quantitative skills and ability to understand organizational economics.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships at all levels within an organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships in a portfolio of current major donors and grow the portfolio.
  • Collaborate with NMH development team to manage donations, letters, materials, and CRM records.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of donor information.
  • Coordinate with Marketing to distribute fundraising materials across print, digital, and social channels.
  • Track, analyze, and report on the status of the major donors portfolio.
  • Represent Newport Mental Health professionally at local and regional levels.
  • Support NMH’s annual golf tournament and gala.
  • Handle other development duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING (ESSENTIAL DUTIES) …

This position is responsible for the year-round cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategy to engage 100 current donors who give $1,000 or more annually, and continuing to build the portfolio to 130 donors. This position will also be primarily responsible for the agency’s 100 Women initiative. This initiative gathers donors 3 or 4 times a year for light educational program and provides an opportunity for stewardship and cultivation of existing major donors as well as evaluation of prospective major donors.

Essential Duties:

  • Develop relationships in a portfolio of 100 existing individual donors in ways that have a quantifiable impact on philanthropic revenue and grows the portfolio to 130
  • Work with NMH development team members to effectively manage donations, letters, correspondence, presentation materials, and maintain an internal database (E-Tapestry CRM) for recording donations, activity tracking, and related files and processes associated with fundraising campaigns, events, and programs
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of proprietary donor information
  • Collaborate with NMH marketing to develop timelines and systems that promote efficient and effective distribution of fundraising materials through print, digital, and social channels
  • Regularly track, analyze, and report on project to plan status of organization’s portfolio of major donors
  • Maintain productive and collaborative relationships with all Newport Mental Health staff
  • Seek and embrace opportunities to represent Newport Mental Health on a local and regional level with professionalism in his/her area of expertise.
  • Provide support for NMH’s annual golf tournament and gala
  • Handle other development duties as assigned
Requirements
WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU…
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Fundraising, Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Entrepreneurship
  • 4 or more years’ of related work experience, and a demonstrable track record in successfully managing a major gifts portfolio and capital campaign
  • A strong working knowledge of healthcare, or associated industries is preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate outstanding verbal and written communication skills as well as strong public speaking and presentation skills with the ability to listen actively; a flexible writing style with an ability to tailor content to the audience and channel is required
  • Candidates should demonstrate strong quantitative skills and an ability to grasp company economics
  • An ability to cultivate strong interpersonal customer and coworker relationships at all levels of organization is required.
  • A track record of commitment to professional development and evidence based work is preferred.
