Job summary

Newport Mental Health is seeking a Director of Children’s Programs to oversee administrative and clinical leadership for the Center’s children’s offerings, including the General Outpatient and EOS programs. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, translate mission into actionable plans, and ensure high-quality care.

The role requires a Master’s in Social Work or RN qualification with 2–5 years of supervisory behavioral health experience, and a proven ability to collaborate with community

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or related field, or RN qualification.
  • 2-5 years of professional behavioral health supervisory experience.
  • Experience in collaborative work with sister agencies and multidisciplinary teamwork.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING (ESSENTIAL DUTIES) …

The Director is responsible for both the administrative oversight and clinical leadership of the Center’s Children’s programs. This includes managing the Children's General Outpatient and Enhanced Outpatient Program (EOS).

Essential Duties :

  • Program Oversight and Administration:
  • Provide administrative oversight or delegate responsibilities to Team Leaders and Directors for program management, service delivery, performance monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Ensure the performance of program staff is consistently monitored to achieve positive outcomes for clients and families.
  • Participate in the NMH Administrator-on-Call system to address urgent issues and provide support as needed.
  • Translate the organization’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals into actionable plans, driving organizational change and growth.
  • Leadership and Supervision:
  • Lead and support a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including therapists, educators, and support staff.
  • Facilitate staff in setting and achieving work goals, and implement a performance tracking system for programs, departments, and individuals.
  • Mentor, train, and evaluate staff to maintain high standards of care and foster professional development.
  • Motivate and guide staff towards goal attainment, encourage cooperative working relationships, and develop leadership potential through coaching and mentoring.
  • Conflict Management:
  • Manage and resolve conflicts constructively to minimize impacts on service delivery, financial viability, and staff morale.
  • Clinical Decision Support:
  • Assist Team Leaders and intake clinical staff in decision-making processes based on clinical practice guidelines for client admissions or referrals to alternative services.
  • Representation and Advocacy:
  • Represent NMH at statewide and community forums, including RICCMHO and BHDDH, to advocate for the organization and its programs.
  • Program Development and Management:
  • Develop, implement, and manage high acuity programs tailored to children with complex behavioral, emotional, and medical needs.
  • Ensure programs are evidence-based and aligned with best practices in child development and care.
  • Monitor program effectiveness and make data-driven adjustments to enhance outcomes and efficiency.
  • Family and Community Engagement:
  • Build strong relationships with families, advocating for their needs and providing support and guidance.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, schools, and healthcare providers to strengthen program resources and support networks.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure programs comply with regulatory requirements and organizational policies.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to uphold high standards of care and safety.
  • Address and resolve any issues or concerns related to program delivery or client satisfaction.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
  • Develop and manage program budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to financial guidelines.
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities and grants to support program expansion and sustainability.
  • Caseload Management:
  • Potential to handle a small caseload for prescribing, if applicable.
Requirements
WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU…
  • Master's Degree in Social Work or related field, or Registered Nurse qualification.
  • Meets criteria for ‘Qualified Mental Health Professional’ as defined by MHRH.
  • 2-5 years of professional behavioral health supervisory experience.
  • Previous experience in behavioral health program management and clinical supervision.
  • Experience in collaborative work with sister agencies and multidisciplinary teamwork.
