Compensation : $87,880 - $92,761 Annually

CENTER'S MISSION : Building a world where LGBTQ+ people thrive as healthy, equal, and complete members of society.

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY : The Center's Development department is responsible for the fundraising to support the Center's many programs and services that are not financially supported by government grants. The department raises nearly $20 million through individual gifts, private foundation grants, and estate and legacy gifts, as well as several fundraising events which include major events, such as the Center Gala.

JOB SUMMARY : Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of approximately 150 sustaining donors (annual gifts of $1,500 or more) and prospects as well as assisting with the planning and implementation of a comprehensive major gift strategy. This is a front-line fundraising role with a special focus on upgrading existing and attracting new donors, developing donor strategies that create opportunities for donors to support at the principal gift level ($1m+), and integrating the activities into the Center's Annual Giving moves management program and portfolio pipeline management. The program includes researching, prospecting, keeping detailed donor records and managing a well-developed program of donor cultivation, recognition, and renewal.

of Role ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

45% Major Gifts Fundraising, Strategy, Execution

  • Work with the Director of Major Gifts to implement and manage a comprehensive strategy to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 150 sustaining donors & prospective sustaining donors.
  • Set annual and monthly revenue projections and goals for the assigned portfolio of Major Gifts and Principal Gifts.
  • Increase the overall giving of the assigned portfolio, with heavy emphasis on substantially upgrading current donors, soliciting new donors, and identifying principal level gift opportunities ($1M+).
  • Participate in all aspects of the program including identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and renewal of donors.
  • Implement and manage the Center's Moves Management system (action tracks) for all assigned portfolios of sustaining donors.
  • Develop personal and close-working relationships with high net-worth individuals to engage them in the process of donor cultivation and stewardship.
  • Work with Planned Giving team to identify prospects for planned gift cultivation and solicitation.

35% Donor Engagement

  • Conduct 20 or more personalized engagement actions / attempts per month with donors & prospects with a goal of 80-144 face-to-face or virtual donor meetings annually.
  • Engage the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Development Officer, and leadership team in donor strategy efforts to deepen connections and understanding of Center programs.
  • Provide tailored proposals, presentations, and impact reports for major gift donors.
  • Entertain donors at lunches, dinners, and other appropriate social settings.
  • In addition to tours for the public, organize tours of Center facilities for high net-worth donors.
  • Lead individual donor outreach and engagement for events and the annual gala.

20% Other Duties

  • Attend departmental, programmatic, and external events as a representative of the Center, and give presentations as required.
  • Conduct tours of the Center for current and prospective donors.
  • Work closely with development, administration, communications, and program staff to advance knowledge of program activities and outcomes and communicate those to donors.
  • Ensure data integrity and maintain meticulous records in compliance with departmental standards regarding donor cultivation, recognition, solicitation, and stewardship for assigned portfolio.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.
  • A passion for the Center's work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ+ people.
  • Minimum 2 years of Major Gift fundraising experience, with special emphasis placed on donor relations, identification, membership management and upgrading donor support.
  • Demonstrated concern for detail, organization, and timely follow-through.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Knowledge of Moves Management and Salesforce, including familiarity with structure and uses of sophisticated donor records software.
  • Standard office computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Flexibility to work during the evening and on weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of the Los Angeles LGBTQ+ philanthropic communities.
