Job description

Under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, the Major Gifts Officer will play a major role in the overall success of the Development program and assist RMHC CTMA in meeting our annual fundraising goals. This individual will work closely with the Development team to implement fundraising strategies, engage and steward donors, and contribute to the organization's overall growth and success. The successful candidate will be an initiative-taking, self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal skills.

Roles and Responsibilities

· Identify and engage a pipeline of leadership donors to continually cultivate new major donors. Manage a portfolio of 125-150 donors.

· Identify new donor prospects with the potential to make significant contributions to RMHC CTMA with a strong focus on the greater Hartford (Conn.) region as well as Western Massachusetts.

· Build a network of philanthropists to serve as ambassadors for RMHC CTMA throughout the region.

· Participate in internal and external speaking engagements and engage with program volunteers to enhance their experience with RMHC CTMA.

· Develop, plan, and participate in strategic donor engagement opportunities.

· Develop a high-quality donor experience through regular personalized correspondence, professional proposals, and timely stewardship.

· Maintain an organized and detailed prospective donor pipeline, documenting each donor’s journey in Raiser’s Edge.

· Collaborate with team members to design and produce development materials and collateral (customized donor proposals, booklets, brochures, signage, etc.), as needed.

· Independently exercise ethical, sound judgment, and maintain the highest standards of donor privacy and confidence.

· Accurately update and maintain major donor/prospect information and activity in Raiser’s Edge.

· Attend RMHC CTMA signature fundraising events and support events as needed.

· Serve as an RMHC CTMA ambassador, communicating the organization's mission, vision, and values.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

RequiredEducationandExperience:

· Possess a minimum of 3 years' work experience in annual or leadership fundraising and resource development.

· Bachelor’s degree (or higher).

· Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Office.

· Experience in a non-profit environment.

· Background of the Hartford philanthropic landscape.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

· Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, presentation).

· Experience with and a proven track record around prospecting, pipeline building, and prospect development.

· Results-driven, flexible, self-motivated, intellectually curious, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently while being a collaborative team player.

· Ability to work proactively and independently while seamlessly communicating with a team.

· Knowledge of the philanthropic market in the greater Hartford region is preferred.

· Fluency with Raiser’s Edge or other nonprofit CRM preferred.

· Occasional weekends and nights required.
