Job summary

More Perfect Union is seeking a Development Director to lead the next growth phase by expanding the development function and major donor fundraising. The role works closely with the Executive Director, COO, and Editor-in-Chief to advance major gift and foundation fundraising in support of the organization’s sustainability and growth.

The ideal candidate will be strategic and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple workstreams, and skilled at communicating and writing to advance fundraising

Qualifications

• 5+ years in nonprofit or political fundraising/development
• 3+ years soliciting major gifts
• Experience creating donor-facing materials such as decks, proposals, or memos
• Experience with major donor and foundation fundraising, including relationship management, outreach support and solicitation
• Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead major gift fundraising strategy with donor prioritization and engagement
• Maintain portfolio of major donors and engage donors in written communication, calls and visits
• Prospect for new major donors and foundations
• Create, update and maintain donor materials, briefs, grant narratives, and background documents
• Track development activity and progress toward fundraising goals and identify opportunities to strengthen support
• Collaborate with teams to ensure fundraising materials reflect editorial priorities and organizational impact
