Position Overview/Duties
Serves as Maintenance Worker for Operations (Or Fleet) Division of USACE, p erforms the duties of a Maintenance Worker which covers the full range ofmaintenance tasks requiring the application of journeyman level skills in a wide variety of trades and crafts.
- DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENT/DUTIES:
- Serves as maintenance worker performing work in variety of trades in carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical and mechanical trades. Such trades involving but not limited to maintenance of dam control tower facilities, buildings and structures.
- Operate, install, repair, maintain hydraulic systems, electrical equipment, machinery, mechanical tools, use of tractor, backhoe etc.
- Installation and construction of buildings/structures, as well as modification and repairing of current structures and buildings.
- Maintenance of water treatment plants requiring filtration processes, electrical work, welding etc.
- Modify parts, components, or assemblies in the maintenance and repair of various items of installed, dam operating, or mobile equipment and machinery.
- Troubleshoot, locate and make basic repairs of electrical wiring, controls, equipment, fixtures.
- Use a variety of hand and power shop tools in accomplishing assignments.

- APPLICABILITY/AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Experience Requirement
Minimum Qualifications Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. Have the ability to perform common duties as a maintenance worker. Perform rough carpentry work, sandblasting and painting, pipefitting, equipment operations, concrete maintenance and repair. Ability to operate heavy equipment to include but not limited to: overhead cranes, skid steer, dump truck, aerial lifts, and forklifts to safely and accurately maneuver supplies and materials to accomplish repair, replacement or creation of projects. Work with close general supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
- Competencies needed for the position:
- Physical Effort: Works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where areas are hard to reach. Work requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing and may be performed in cramped positions, under equipment, structures, etc. Frequently required to lift and carry parts and items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Working Conditions: Work is performed outside in extremes of weather or inside shop and other buildings. Work involves walking and climbing steps, slopes and uneven surfaces. There is danger of injury such as cuts, burns, electrical shock and bruises while use of power tools and welding equipment. Strains from lifting or work in awkward positions, and danger of drowning while working in proximity of the water.
Conditions of Employment
- This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program. Pre employment drug test required and continued participation in the program.
- Annual physical is required as well as a pre employment physical.
- Must obtain/maintain valid state operators license for vehicles.
- Heavy lifting is required. May be required to lift up to 50lbs alone and 100 lbs assisted.
- May be required to obtain and maintain all Corps of Engineers licenses associated with position. The Government has a Licensing Program which includes, but is not limited to Dump Truck, Truck and Trailer, Crane, Forklift and construction equipment.
- Appropriate uniform must be worn where required, IAW EP1130-2-520 Ch 7
- One-year probationary period may be required.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) VARIES depending on location and position, >25%.
- Appointment may be subject to suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

- Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.

- Nepotism: Under the provisions of 5 USC 3110, an individual may not be appointed into a position if the position is under the supervisory chain of command of a relative.
