Job summary

The National Park Service in Ohio seeks a Seasonal Maintenance Worker (Trails) to perform upkeep, repair and construction of walls, bridges, trails and related park structures. Work includes carpentry with heavy timber, and use of power and hand tools, including chainsaws.

Responsibilities

• Maintenance, repair and construction of walls, bridge abutments, causeways, trail tread, and other similar structures.
• Carpentry work with heavy log and rough-sawn timbers and lumber.
• Construction on buildings, walkways, hitch rails, and other park structures.
• Using both power and hand tools, including chainsaws.
• Maintenance work on the Cuyahoga Valley National Scenic Railroad: equipment operations, mowing, clearing line of sight, tree trimming and removal.
• Subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing per FRA regulations.

You will serve as a Maintenance Worker (Trails) (Seasonal). The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Seasonal Staffing Office-Cuyahoga Valley National Park is March - September, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: March - July 2027.

Key Responsibilities

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Maintenance, repair and construction of walls, bridge abutments, causeways, trail tread, and other similar structures. Carpentry work will involve heavy log and rough-sawn timbers and lumber. Construction on buildings, walkways, hitch rails, and other park structures. Using both power and hand tools, including chainsaws.

May be involved in assisting in maintenance of way of work on the Cuyahoga Valley National Scenic Railroad which includes equipment operations, mowing along the railroad, clearing line of sights, tree trimming and removal. Incumbent doing maintenance way of work is subject to mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and random drug and alcohol testing per the regulations established by the Federal Railroad Authority (FRA).
