Job summary

The City of Fayetteville is hiring a Heavy Equipment Operator for street maintenance and related duties. CDL is required and training is provided to operate pavers, milling machines, and other heavy equipment.

You will supervise Maintenance III and assist with basic grade construction, snow removal, and traffic control while ensuring safety and reliable attendance. Strong communication and physical capability are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and 18 months of related experience or training.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and obtain a Class B CDL within 120 days of hire.
• Must have or be able to obtain a Class B CDL within 120 days of hire.
• Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
• Knowledgeable with heavy equipment (pavers, milling machine, backhoe, dozer, loader, rollers, etc.).
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Provide good customer service to internal and external customers and maintain reliable attendance.
• Provide supervision of Maintenance III and other workers in the absence of the Crew Leader.
• Operate heavy equipment such as asphalt paver, milling machine, sweeper, oil truck, and others.
• Operate dozer, gradall, backhoe, grader, skid loader, dump truck, and related machinery.
• Assist with basic grade construction of streets and trails.
• Move equipment and materials to and from job sites and perform daily maintenance checks.
• Remove snow and ice from City roads and assist with traffic control.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

1. Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of his or her own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
2. Provide supervision of Maintenance III and other workers in the absence of the Crew Leader or lead workers.
3. Operate specialized heavy equipment such as asphalt paver, milling machine, sweeper, oil truck, and other specialized heavy equipment
4. Operate heavy construction equipment such as, dozer, gradall, backhoe, grader, bobcat skid loader, dump truck, front end loader and rollers.
5. Assist with basic grade construction of streets and trails.
6. Perform other duties as assigned.

1. Move equipment and materials to and from job sites.
2. Maintain equipment through daily maintenance, checks and grease applications.
3. Removal of snow and ice from City roads.
4. Traffic control and assistance with moving traffic through and/or around job sites.
5. Perform secondary duties as assigned.

2. Must possess a valid driver's license. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License.
3. Must obtain a class B CDL within 120 days of hire date.
4. Effectively communicate with others orally and in writing.
5. Knowledgeable in the use of heavy equipment, such as pavers, milling machine, backhoe, dozer, front end loader, gradall, grader, rollers, skid loaders, dump truck, salt truck, sweeper, oil truck etc. preferred.
6. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear for safety reasons or to operate specific equipment.The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
7. While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electric shock and vibration.The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
