Job description

The Building Systems Department is seeking a full-time Maintenance Worker II to perform as a member of the Library Building Systems Group providing prompt, courteous, and effective repairs and maintenance of Library buildings, grounds, furnishings, equipment to ensure that they are comfortable and functional.

The mission of the St. Louis County Library is to provide the resources and services to enrich individual minds, enhance lives and expand perspectives. SLCL is an award winning library system with branches throughout St. Louis County. We have transformed into a meaningful community resource with updated facilities and an array of programs and partnerships that serve over 860,000 patrons.

Salary: $23.55-29.80 an hour - dependent on experience

Hours: 40 hours per week

Essential Responsibilities

• 1. Provides quality repairs and maintenance of Library buildings to maintain district buildings in top working condition.
• 2. Provides prompt and courteous personal assistance and communication with all Library staff to assist the Building Systems Group in building solid working relationships, district-wide.
• 3. Participates in off-hour service and quarterly building inspections at assigned branches to support the Library operation schedule and minimize closings. This is a wee long on-call rotation split between six other staff members, an on-call phone will be provided.
• 4. Assist in the provision of Library improvements and upgrades to improve the quality of programs and service the district offers to its customers.
• 5. Assists in project organization and maintains personal readiness to perform standard tasks to contribute personally to the Building Systems Group team effort.

• 1. Provides quality repairs and maintenance of Library buildings to maintain district buildings in top working condition.
  • A. Performs quality repairs and maintenance of Library buildings to maintain district buildings in top working conditions.
  • B. Follows directions carefully and completely and works in a safe manner at all times.
  • C. Uses judgement skills to provide complete and trouble-free repairs.
  • D. Accurately completes preventive maintenance checklists.
• 2. Provides prompt and courteous personal assistance and communication with all Library staff to assist the Building Systems Group in building solid working relationships, district-wide.
  • A. Responds promptly to service assignments.
  • B. Checks in and checks out with available person in charge.
  • C. Communicates with Coordinator of Maintenance about unexpected circumstances.
• 3. Participates in off-hour service and quarterly building inspections at assigned branches to support the Library operation schedule and minimize closings. This is a week long on-call rotation split between six other staff members, an on-call phone will be provided.
  • A. Respond to calls for assistance from Manager, Building Systems promptly.
  • B. Assists in the generation of checklists for use in quarterly branch inspections.
  • C. Thoroughly performs inspections, accurately records data.
• 4. Assist in the provision of Library improvements and upgrades to improve the quality of programs and service the district offers to its customers.
  • A. Provides the following upgrades either alone or with the assistance of a Maintenance Worker: New walls and rooms, wiring and video systems, signs and banners, painting and decorating.
  • B. Follows directions carefully and completely.
  • C. Contributes knowledge from experience to enhance project completion and quality.
• 5. Assists in project organization and maintains personal readiness to perform standard tasks to contribute personally to the Building Systems Group team effort.
  • A. Uses appropriate time to effectively organize job supplies.
  • B. Clarifies job assignments before beginning.
  • C. Maintains organized set of tools and typical supplies.
  • D. Has gained competence in an area of expertise and participates in training to advance skills.
