UT Parking and Transportation Services is responsible for the management of over 17,000 parking spaces on campus, including 12 parking garages and more than 50 surface parking lots. Our operations include the distribution and regulation of daily, permitted, and event parking, as well as the maintenance of parking lots and garages. We also provide assistance to those parked on or traveling through campus. This assistance includes jump‑starts and opening vehicles for those locked out.

Purpose

To provide general campus wide maintenance and janitorial/cleaning functions for the department of Parking and Transportation Services without necessity for constant instruction and supervision. Work will include surface parking lots, campus streets, and university garages. Position may be required to work holiday, weekend, overtime or comp time as necessary.

Responsibilities
  • Performs basic parking garage maintenance: operates sweeper, cleans parking decks, empties trash receptacles, sweeps shop areas, cleans garage offices and/or performs routine custodial duties. May assist with training new employees.
  • Performs routine ground maintenance tasks: repairing, moving and installing of signs. Breaking up and pouring concrete. Digging holes and ditches. Painting as needed. Chips holes to place traffic control barriers. Frequent use of power tools, routine carpentry tools, saws and ladders.
  • Other janitorial services. Drives UT vehicle. Delivers or moves furniture, equipment and materials. Sets up tables and chairs for department functions. Stocks supplies in shop. Performs related duties as required.
  • Other related functions as assigned. Position may be required to work holiday, weekend, overtime or comp time as necessary. Must work minimum of three home football games.
Required Qualifications

High school graduation or GED. One year of experience as a laborer. Must be willing and able to carry 60 lbs., walk stairs in garage repeatedly over an 8-hour shift. Must have professional demeanor, show attention to detail, have reliable transportation, and display punctual, dependable attendance.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • More than one year of experience working with maintenance and/or in a parking garage. Previous experience with surface lots, signage, street, and/or lot maintenance. Previous experience working in a university environment. Previous experience working in a parking operation. Knowledge of UT structure, policies, rules and procedures. Able to run large sweeper.
Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre‑employment, post‑accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return‑to‑duty, and follow‑up drug and alcohol testing).
