Job description

Maintenance Worker (Facilities Caretaker) Our Lady of Sorrows Parish

Reports to Pastor or Pastor's Delegate

Part Time {not to exceed 19 hours per week)

Hours of Work:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM Saturday 9:00 AM - Noon

Position Responsibilities:

Assures that church and other parish buildings are maintained in a clean and orderly manner. Accomplishes this by sweeping, mopping, waxing and vacuuming floors, cleaning and stocking of bathrooms and washing windows. Maintains wooden furniture that requires oiling and maintenance.

Performs minor maintenance of all parish buildings. Accomplishes this by doing light carpentry work, light painting and minor repair work as needed and directed.

Clears snow and ice from all outdoor parish walkways and steps.

Provides other general assistance through setting up tables and chairs as needed and as requested including but not limited to items specified below.

Assures the regular and timely collection and disposal of trash and garbage.

Maintains an inventory of lighting and cleaning supplies and orders supplies as directed.

Performs other normal maintenance duties as directed by pastor or pastor's delegate.

Specific program support setting up responsibilities:

Faith Formation
Weekly September through May Set up tables and chairs for faith formation classrooms (4 first floor, 2 basement).
Additional events: September Ice Cream Social), December Secret Santa, Easter Egg Hunt Social, Confirmation and other events as directed by pastor or pastor's delegate.
Parish Fundraising
Weekly BINGO and other events as directed by pastor or pastor's delegate.
Church Decorating and Maintenance:
Weekly Removal of boxes of used candles to appropriate dumpsters. Order Christmas Flowers as directed and assist with decoration set up and Nativity Scene placement.
Order Easter flowers as directed and assist with decorating set up and placement of the Altar of Repose.

Qualifications:

Successful work experience implementing a comprehensive cleaning plan for a facility including sweeping, dusting, washing and waxing.
Successful work experience in minor repair work and light painting.
Self-initiative and ability to work without constant supervision.
Ability to understand and follow directions.
Ability to lift at least fifty pounds.
Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to provide own transportation for job related responsibilities.
Ability to be available on-call for emergencies.
